Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture is one of the three autonomous prefectures in Sichuan Province and Xichang, the capital. Located in the southwest of Sichuan Province, Dadu River borders Ya'an City and Ganzi Prefecture in the north, Jinsha River faces Yunnan Province in the south, Zhaotong City in Yunnan Province and Yibin City and Leshan City in Sichuan Province in the east, Ganzi Prefecture in the west; the terrain is high in the northwest, low in the southeast, high in the north and low in the south; the climate belongs to the subtropical monsoon climate zone. The city covers an area of 60400 square kilometers and has jurisdiction over 1 county-level city, 15 counties and 1 autonomous county, with a registered population of 5.2129 million in 2017.
