Wanzhou District is under the jurisdiction of Chongqing, which is located in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, the northeast of Chongqing and the hinterland of the three Gorges Reservoir area. It is the material distribution center of northeast Chongqing, eastern Sichuan, western Hubei, southern Shaanxi, eastern Guizhou and western Hunan, and is the regional central city of the urban belt along the Yangtze River in Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration. The county government was established at the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty, the name of Wanzhou was used in the Tang Dynasty, and Chengdu and Chongqing were called "Chengdu and Chongqing" during the period of the Republic of China. Wanzhou District has jurisdiction over 52 towns, townships and streets, covering an area of 3457 square kilometers and an urban area of 100 square kilometers (including water). It has built a 25-kilometer riverside inner ring around the lake and 57 kilometers of urban outer ring, with "one ring and two wings" urban spatial pattern. At the end of 2017, the resident population of Wanzhou District was 1.6358 million. Wanzhou District is a "national demonstration area for public service of place names", which has won a lot of attention.
