Zhongxian County is located in the middle of Chongqing, the hinterland of the three Gorges Reservoir area, 210 kilometers away from the main city. Tang Zhenguan was named Zhongzhou in the eighth year of Tang Taizong, and Zhongxian was established in 1949. It is the only prefecture and county city named after the word "Zhong" in Chinese history.
