What a fun question!

When you ask if a 4-year-old can or cannot drift (or flow), I assume you’re referring to playing with playdough or sand, rather than actual fluid dynamics.

Given that most children at the age of 4 are still developing their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination, it’s perfectly normal for them not to have the physical dexterity or understanding yet to create complex drifting patterns. That being said…

Many times, young creative minds like a 4-year-old can still enjoy playing with different textures and materials by squishing, squeezing, poking, and exploring! They might not be able to create intricate designs, but they’ll likely get excited about the sensory experience.

So, while your little one’s drifting skills might need some time to develop (pun intended), it’s wonderful that you’re encouraging their curiosity and creativity!
