Do children need to carry their own swim ring?
The answer depends on the child’s age, swimming ability, and water conditions. Here are some general guidelines:
- For younger children (usually under 5 years old), it’s generally recommended for them to use a flotation device, such as an approved Personal Flotation Device (PFD) or a kickboard with built-in buoyancy, while in the water. These devices provide added safety and help prevent drowning.
- Older children (typically around 6-8 years old) who are beginning to learn how to swim may benefit from using their own small inflatable ring, like an arm-ring or a mini-donut raft. This can give them confidence and independence while still in the learning process.
It’s essential for parents or guardians to assess each child individually and decide whether they need assistance or supervision while swimming. Factors such as water depth, currents, waves, and other children’s activities should also be considered when making this determination.
