The Beautiful Scenic Area of Shuishan, located 10 kilometers west of Stone City and south of Baoshu Town in Yunnan Province, is a well-known scenic spot. It is renowned for its exceptional beauty due to the temples hidden among clouds and mist.

Main attractions include:

  • Jingzhu Temple: Originally named “Qiongsun,” it was built during the Tang Dynasty and rebuilt several times before being renamed “Shuishan Temple” in the Qing Dynasty. The temple houses various architectural styles, including a mountain gate, a grand hall of Maitreya Buddha, and pavilions. It enshrines icons of Confucius, Laozi, and Gautama Buddha, as well as other revered figures from Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism.
  • Resting Pavilion: Located beside the reservoir at the foot of Shuishan Hill, this elegant pagoda-style structure was built during the Qing Dynasty. A stone plaque next to it inscribed with “Shuishan” in cursive script depicts a dragon roaming amidst clouds and mist.
  • Ancient Cypress Trees: The temple is surrounded by towering ancient cypress trees that provide shade for visitors, creating a sense of peacefulness and solemnity.

  • Clear Springs: A tranquil pond located west of the temple. Its crystal-clear water quenches thirst on hot days and cleanses the mind with a refreshing charm.
    Xishan Scenic Area, located at southwestern part of Shiqing County City and south of Baoshou Town in 10 kilometers, is one of the famous mountains in Yunnan Province, known as “Shuishan” due to its beautiful scenic views. The area includes temples hidden among white clouds and mist, with a tranquil ambiance and resplendent natural scenery.

The main attractions include:

  • True Awakening Temple: originally named “Yingshan”, built during the Tang Dynasty, underwent several renovations, and was renamed as “Shuishan” in the Qing Dynasty.
    Inside, architectural features such as entrance gate, Daxiong Palace, and Cloud Stage can be found. The temple houses statues of Confucius, Laozi, and Gautama Buddha.

  • Rest Pavilion: located at the foot of Shuishan Hill near a lake, a delicate structure with beautiful architecture from the Qing Dynasty.
    A stone stele with the words “Shuishan” in bold characters is situated beside the pavilion, featuring lush foliage. The area can be accessed via a stone staircase.

  • Ancient Cypress Trees: surrounding True Awakening Temple are towering ancient cypress trees that provide shade and tranquility to the temple grounds.

  • Clear Springs: located on the west side of the temple complex is a crystal-clear spring where one can drink fresh water, clearing one’s mind and dispelling pollutants.
