You’re currently in Shahe Township and want to know how to get to Wutaishan (Five-Tailed Mountain) and Yanmen Pass. That’s a great idea!

Wutaishan is an amazing Buddhist pilgrimage site with stunning scenery, while Yanmen Pass holds significant historical importance as the last pass of the Great Wall before it reaches Shanhai Pass.

Here are some directions:

  1. To get to Wutaishan:
    • From Shahe Township, take bus number 303 or 305 (around ¥5-6) towards Taiyuan and alight at Wanghua County.
    • From Wanghua County, take a taxi or ride-sharing service (~¥10) to the Wutaishan Scenic Area entrance. From there, follow signs to get to the main temple complex.
  2. To get to Yanmen Pass:
    • Take bus number 314 (around ¥5-6) from Shahe Township towards Jinzhong City and alight at Pingyao County.
    • From Pingyao County, take a taxi or ride-sharing service (~¥20) to the entrance of Yanmen Pass. Be prepared for some hiking as there are stairs and rough paths leading up to the pass.

As for recommendations from locals:

  1. For Wutaishan: I’d recommend talking to old friends in Wanghua County who might be willing to drive you or introduce someone who can take you closer to the scenic area.

  2. For Yanmen Pass: If you have a friend living in Pingyao City, ask them if they know of any local tour guides offering private tours to Yanmen Pass (it’s about an hour’s driving distance).

Please note that availability and prices might vary depending on your travel plans and preferences. Additionally, make sure to check the opening hours for both sites before heading out.

Safe travels!
