Friendship Pass Scenic Area is a 4A-level national tourist attraction, located in Wenshan City, Guangxi Province, at the southwestern end of Vietnam. It is where National Highway 322 ends and meets the Vietnamese highway, serving as an important land route and border crossing between China and Vietnam, about 18 kilometers from Wenshan city center.
Friendship Pass is one of China’s nine major passes in history. Originally named Yongji Pass, it was also known as Daren Pass and Jiefang Pass, dating back to the Han Dynasty. It is a well-preserved fortification from the Ming and Qing dynasties on the southern border, with significant historical and cultural values.
The main attractions within the scenic area include Gate Tower, city walls, left auxiliary mountain artillery (Zhen Guan Cannon), right auxiliary mountain artillery (Jinji Mountain Cannon), Guangxi General Hall of the Qing Dynasty (French-style building) and the Ming Tombs. The Friendship Pass Gate Tower is the core structure of the scenic area, reaching a height of 22 meters and composed of two parts: ground-level architecture and arc-shaped floor plan.
The highway passes through a tunnel beneath the gate tower, with three large Chinese characters “Friendship Pass” carved on top in white marble. These were inscribed by Chen Yi, Marshal and Deputy Premier of the Government at the time.
