Is a boat ride on the Taiping River good at night or during the day? Is the scenery more beautiful?
Is it better to buy a official ticket or a wild ticket for doing boating on Pu Jiang in Phoenix Ancient City? Let’s see all 2 answers anonymously.
I think buying tickets is completely unnecessary. It’s not worth it. The boat ride on Pu Jiang is only about 800 meters, and other attractions like temples and tombs can be seen from outside the door. Tickets don’t necessarily guarantee that you’ll like where you end up, it’s just old stuff for grandparents. If you’re someone with no literary background or not willing to take risks, forget about buying tickets.
You can do boating on your own and rent a small private boat instead of taking a big one. It’s cheaper and pretty similar scenery… plus you have room to bargain! There are shopping streets, bar streets, food streets, and the city gate walls that offer many ways to explore slowly and enjoyably at low prices during off-peak seasons.
You can even get very cheap accommodations on Pu Jiang riverbank for 50 yuan (you might be able to negotiate a better price). Food is also affordable. There are many small eats in the evenings, just remember: no matter what you do in Phoenix, bargaining is key! In general, it’s enough if you buy tickets at one-third of the original price… especially “Silver Plate” ones with prices from 3 yuan to 300 yuan! Pay attention before buying, and most importantly, enjoy your time happily!
I went to Phoenix and did not sit down, so I don’t know.
About doing a “doing official” boat tour versus a “wild” boat tour in Fenghuang Ancient City, I think it’s not necessary to buy tickets. The Wuyun River cruise, which is about 800 meters long from start to finish, can be seen just by looking at it outside - there’s no need for tickets. The ticket-selling points aren’t necessarily what you like, but they’re old stories that only the elderly know well. If you’re not familiar with literature and art, then don’t go in the first place. You can play on your own.
If you do want to take a boat ride, there are private boats for rent at a lower price than regular tourist boats, with similar scenery… what’s important is bargaining - Fenghuang has shopping streets, bar streets, food courts, and surrounding walls that you can slowly explore and savor. If you go during the off-season, accommodation will be very affordable, with standard double rooms near the Wuyun River for as low as 50 yuan (you might even get a better price by negotiating - 10-20 yuan per person, minus one bed). Food is also quite cheap at night, with many small dishes available. Remember to bargain in Fenghuang no matter what you do… generally, it’s okay if you can get three-fourths of the original price. Especially for “Yinuo” (a local delicacy), prices range from 3 to 300 yuan - make sure to take a look before making a move! Most importantly, just enjoy yourself and have fun!
It’s better to take a regular tour, with a pleasant view, good boat attitude, and teahouses on both sides passing through from left to right. How nice it feels!
Take a night cruise with great scenery (19:00~20:00), queue at 18:30 and note that you need to board your ship at the dock indicated on your ticket.
I went to Phoenix without getting on, so I don’t know.
There are two companies that run boat tours, and I think it’s the one with a package deal that includes eight scenic spots and the ticket for boarding. It’s actually Phoebe’s most famous part of the ship, absolutely must see at night, pretty general during the day. If you really want to take a ride, you’d better buy the package tour including scenic spots, single fare is over 100 yuan, and it only costs a few bucks per spot after deducting the boat ticket with a package deal.
Night travel, ancient city only becomes beautiful at night. Days are meaningless, willing to spend 60 yuan ticket price to stroll around Qinglong Cave.
Night stroll, ancient city only looks good at night. No meaning during the day, willing to spend 60 yuan ticket price can tour Qinglong Cave
About Taking a Boat Ride on Pujiang in Fenghuang Ancient Town: Is it Better to Rent an Official Boat or a Wild One?

I think buying tickets isn’t necessary. It’s not worth it. The Pujiang boat ride has less than 800 meters of scenic views; you can appreciate them just fine if you look outside the gates. The ticket prices aren’t determined by your personal preferences - they’re all about what some older folks want. If you don’t have a strong literary or cultural background, maybe just skip it.
You can really enjoy yourselves with private boats for rent that are cheaper than those big government-run ones and still offer great views… the key is negotiating prices! There’s a shopping street, bar street, food street, plus there’s encircling scenery. Take your time to stroll about and savor things slowly.
During off-seasons, accommodations can be very affordable - RMB 50 per night (you may even negotiate down further). Food is also quite cheap - with many small eats at night. Remember that in Fenghuang, no matter what you do, always try to haggle prices! Generally speaking, 1⁄3 of the original price works out just fine.
Especially for those “silver boats” (3 RMB to 300 RMB!), be sure to check carefully before making a move. Most importantly - have fun and enjoy yourself while playing it smart!
I went to Phoenix didn’t sit it out so don’t know.
Is it good to take an official boat tour or a private boat on Wuba River in Phoenix Ancient City?
I think buying tickets from the government agency is not worth it. It’s not that impressive. The whole stretch of river is only around 800 meters, and there are other scenic spots like temples outside. Why do you need to buy tickets? Old folks just go see these sights at the gate. If you’re not someone who highly values cultural heritage, better skip it entirely.
But there are private boats for rent that won’t break your bank, with similar views… And what’s important is negotiating the price! There are shopping malls, bars, and food streets along the riverbank, plus the scenic walls to explore. Take your time walking around and savoring everything at leisure.
In low seasons, accommodations by the Wuba River will be very affordable - a standard double room for RMB 50 (or even cheaper if you can negotiate!), bed rental from RMB 10-20 per person… take it as it comes!
Food is also relatively cheap. At night there are many small eateries to choose from.
Remember, whenever in Phoenix, always bargain! Generally, taking away about one-third of the original price gets you a good deal. And particularly with “Xinyi” - all prices range from RMB 3-300! So double-check before making a move and remember to enjoy yourself most importantly!
Still, doing things properly would be good; it’s picturesque there; the attitude on the boat tours is great; and then you’d have a chance to walk along those charming little bridges. That would be lovely!
Take a night cruise with good views (19:00~20:00), arrive at 18:30 and queue up at the dock, please note to board at the correct dock according to your ticket.

The boat tour has two companies, and there’s no mistake in choosing one that includes entrance tickets to eight scenic spots. I forgot the name of the company itself, just like it’s known for being part of the Phoenix’s most famous stretch by river. You must watch the night views; daytime views are just general ones anyway. If you do insist on taking a boat ride without buying this combo ticket, single-boat tickets will cost over one hundred yuan. With the combo ticket, each scenic spot only costs a few yuan after deducting the boat fee.
Night stroll, an ancient city only looks good at night. Daytime is meaningless. Willing to spend 60 yuan ticket money can roam around Qinglong Cave.
Night stroll, only the old city is good to look at in the evening scenery. It’s meaningless during the day, willing to spend 60 yuan ticket and stroll around Qinglong Cave
