Luoping Biota National Geopark is located in the south-central part of Luoping County, Qujing City, Yunnan Province. It is on the road between Luoping Jiulong Waterfall Group Scenic Area and Duoyi River Scenic Area. The geographical location is very advantageous. The park consists of Dawazi Biological Fossil Scenic Area and Jinjifengcong Scenic Area. In October 2007, during the field geological survey, the Yunnan 1:0000 Regional Geological Survey Project Team of the Chengdu Geological Survey Center of the China Geological Survey discovered the Middle Triassic Guanling near Dawazi Village, Luoxiong Town, 12km southeast of Luoping County. A large number of well-preserved fish fossils were found in the second section of the formation, and subsequently a large number of reptiles and other animal and plant fossils were discovered. After research, it was confirmed that the diversity of its biological categories and the completeness of fossil preservation are rare in the world, and it was officially named “Luoping Biota”.
