Day 7 Itinerary
Time allows for a full-day tour.
One, watch the flag raising at summer and wake up early (flag-raising time synchronizes with sunrise in summer, but later in winter). After flag-raising ends, all tourist spots are closed, so it’s suggested to return home afterwards and rest before visiting the National Museum of China in the afternoon which is located near Tiananmen Square.
Note: The metro has not yet started operating during flag-raising time. It would be more convenient to stay near Tiananmen or take night buses (Bus No.1 or Bus No.2) to get there overnight and consider staying along these bus routes.
Two, the Forbidden City definitely needs prior booking especially in peak season. The tour route is from south gate entrance to north exit, after which you can first visit nearby Jingshan Park and then explore Hutongs (emphasizing Smoke-flavored Street and Nan Luogu Alley) near Dongzhimen Bridge.
Three, generally popular tourist spots are located at Badaling Great Wall, among which the transportation is more convenient. After returning from The Great Wall, consider incorporating a schedule for “Bird’s Nest”.
Four, Yuanming Garden and Summer Palace are next to each other but require almost 2 days of tour time if you want to cover both parks. Just use your discretion.
Tsinghua University and Peking University are also nearby but please note that it is uncertain whether they will allow visitors on campus (considering the pandemic has not yet subsided).
Five, You must visit Qianmen Street, much more so Tiananmen Square, which should be arranged in advance. The natural history museum located next to Tiannamen Park can be visited along with your tour route (free but requires prior booking)
Six, if time permits, consider visiting Lugou Bridge for patriotic education.
Apart from point 4 that is open to individual discretion within a day or two, each section below has been arranged as one-day tours apart from the uncertainties mentioned above.
“Places to go are many, word count is limited, recommend selecting “Xiucai Say”’s customized tour, travel out.”
Day 7 has sufficient time for touring. One, during summer’s rising flag ceremony, you should wake up very early as the timing coincides with sunrise (), and it will be earlier in summer and later in winter; after finishing the viewing of flag-raising, all scenic spots are unlikely to open yet, so I suggest watching the whole process before heading back for a nap and then visiting the National Museum () adjacent to Tiananmen Square.
Note: The subway has not operated at that time (), therefore it is recommended to stay near Tian’anmen or take nocturnal buses 1 and 2 to get there; consider staying along these bus routes as accommodations options.
Two, during peak seasons, you should book in advance for the Palace Museum (). The visitor’s route is from the South Gate () entering the palace, exiting via the North Gate (), and after leaving the museum, head to the nearby scenic mountain park (Yishan Gongyuan), then stroll around Ping’an Lane & Nanluoguxiang.
Three, generally speaking, we will go to Badaling Great Wall for touring; after returning from the wall, consider arranging a trip to the Bird’s Nest ().
Four and Five are two adjacent gardens that require more time for visiting on consecutive days. Clear this up with yourself and others when necessary).
Five, Front Gate Street is definitely worth exploring, as well as Tiantan Park (), where some locals may even tell you it must be visited, not just the Forbidden City (). The natural museum next door can also be visited (free admission but prior booking required).
Six, if there’s time left over, consider visiting Gulouqiao to learn about nationalistic education. All tours except for “Four” are one-day trips; feel free to adjust as necessary.
