The Tielongshan Scenic Area is located 8 kilometers north of Korla City, Bayingolin Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. Situated at the upper reaches of the Heihe River, it was a crucial pass for the southbound and northbound Silk Road in ancient times. The Han Dynasty built a beacon tower here because of its steep terrain and natural defenses, hence its name “Tielongshan”. It is one of China’s 26 ancient passways.

Today, Tielongshan Canyon has a large water storage area built on the river dam upstream, which has flooded out parts of the original ancient Silk Road. The canyon is surrounded by lush forests, filled with lush vegetation and vibrant flowers. Towering trees stand tall along the mountain streams, creating breathtaking scenes that are scattered throughout.
