Just after I went there on June 8, the desert area was indeed closed, and only the Yellow River area was open. If you want to play in the desert, the locals will take you to the nearby Tengger Desert at the intersection, where there are desert surfing, camels, beach motorcycles, ziplines, sand boarding, etc., and the desert scenery is also spectacular. It’s open all the time. You can buy a ticket to go in at 8:30 in the morning. You have to take a shuttle bus to the innermost part. It’s fun!
