The Zhoukoudian "Peking Man" site is located on Longgu Mountain in Zhoukoudian Village, Fangshan District, 48 kilometers southwest of Beijing. It is located at the junction of mountains and plains, with the North China Plain in the southeast and mountains in the northwest. The mountains near Zhoukoudian are mostly limestone, and under the action of hydraulic power, many natural caves of different sizes are formed. There is a natural cave about 140 meters long from east to west on the mountain, commonly known as "ape-man cave". In 1929, ancient human remains were discovered in this cave.
