Maling River Canyon is not far to the east of Xingyi City. I have been here during my trip to Yunnan last spring, and this time it can be regarded as a revisit to the old place. This canyon is not well-known, but the scenery is very good. The narrowest part of the canyon is about 50 meters, and the deepest part is about 200 meters. Although the canyon is not large, due to the appropriate ratio of width and narrowness, it has a feeling of steep terrain with high mountains and deep valleys. The straight up and down rock walls are very steep, and large stretches of jagged rocks hang high above the cliffs. These strange rocks are actually similar to stalactites, which are formed by the deposition of calcium carbonate in the water. Why do so many calcium carbonate wall hangings form? It turns out that one of the unique features of the Maling River Canyon is that there are groups of waterfalls on both sides, and it is said that there are more than one hundred waterfalls. These waterfalls rush down from a height of one or two hundred meters, forming a strange landscape accompanied by many waterfalls. The calcium carbonate rich in water is gradually deposited on the rock wall, eventually forming a large piece of calcium carbonate wall hanging.
The deep canyon makes it difficult for the sun to reach the bottom of the valley. Walking in it, you will feel the cool breeze. The winding path leads to a secluded place, only the sound of flying waterfalls can be heard. The water in the valley is gurgling and the grass is green. A cable bridge across the two banks becomes the most ideal viewing platform. Here you can enjoy the beautiful landscape of waterfalls falling into the canyon at the same time. Although the amount of water is not large at this time, the dark mountain and the silver-white misty waterfall set off each other, creating a mysterious atmosphere like a dream, like a fairyland on earth.
Continue upstream from the chain bridge for a certain distance, and there is a sign indicating that the road ahead is temporarily closed. From here, you can see a very beautiful landscape in front of you, and I always feel unwilling to look back. In the end, he couldn't resist the temptation of the beautiful scenery, and continued to move forward despite breaking the rules. Later, it was found that the road conditions were not abnormal, but some of the soil may have been washed onto the road due to the heavy rain a few days ago. The scenic spot closed the road to be on the safe side. Although the last section of the road is not too long, the scenery is very beautiful. At the end of the road, there is a waterfall with the largest amount of water in the canyon, and the sunlight is just right, which is very good for taking pictures. Fortunately, I didn't follow the rules honestly, otherwise I would miss these beauties. Many tourists followed suit, enjoying the benefits of our breach. The staff of the scenic spot has not intervened.
During the tour, we discovered an anomaly: a large waterfall on the west bank of the canyon disappeared completely. The waterfall, which was full of water last spring, is now without a drop of water. I don't know if the local government temporarily changed the direction of the water flow. If so, there will be a chance to reappear in the future. Most worrisome is permanent disappearance. For this reason, I deliberately re-studied the satellite photos of GOOGLE Earth. From the photos, the sources of these waterfalls flowing into the canyon are all located in the expanding area of Xingyi City. If the city needs to use these water sources in the future, these waterfalls will not escape in the future. In the final analysis, it is the fault of too many people. Human beings will have to accept family planning one day, and the birth rate and total population of each country may be regulated in the same way as carbon emissions are controlled. Otherwise our descendants will have no foothold!
