It is rare that there are 8 days of Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holiday this year. I suddenly thought of visiting the capital Beijing, and my children kept talking about Tiananmen Square. As soon as the two families got together, they left as soon as they said they wanted to go. They started planning half a month in advance, booked tickets, hotels and cars, and finally confirmed the entire itinerary. Check the weather forecast, bring enough clothes (it turns out to be less), and get ready to go.

DAY1: October 3rd

The flight flew to Beijing at 7:45 am and arrived at Beijing Daxing Airport around 11 am. Ctrip booked a car in advance to pick you up at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Wangfujing. After checking in at the hotel, have lunch at the hotel's Chinese restaurant "Chang'an No. 1" and taste roast duck. The hotel I booked used Ctrip's group buying package. The price of 1188 yuan includes a 500 yuan dining coupon for consumption. It is suitable for Chinese restaurants, lobby bars, room mini bars, etc., which is very cost-effective. We used this coupon for lunch. "Chang'an No. 1" is a Michelin-recommended restaurant, and the price is quite good. Tea seats are only 90 yuan per person. The taste of the roast duck is not bad, it is roasted to order, and the products of other dishes are just average, I really don't think it's special, it's salty. Moreover, there are very few places in the restaurant, and we had to wait for half an hour to get a seat. After dinner, we set off for Prince Kung’s Mansion at about 3 o’clock. It costs about 15 yuan to take a taxi. Tickets are bought on the official account in advance. You can rent an interpreter, the garden is still quite big, we walked roughly and came out around 5:30. Then I walked along Beihai Park (closed), Yandai Xiejie, and Shichahai all the way. I passed the Bell Tower and Drum Tower. I couldn’t walk anymore, so I found a hutong door frame that didn’t have to queue for a meal. The taste was not bad. After eating, we continued to walk along Nanluoguxiang. They are all very commercial snack streets, nothing special. Then take a taxi back to the hotel.

DAY2: October 4th

I got up at 4:30 to watch the flag-raising ceremony. The men took their children to see it, and the women continued to sleep if they couldn't get up (the temperature in Beijing dropped today, so they put on thin down feathers). Return to the hotel for breakfast at 8:30, and go out to visit the Forbidden City at 10:00. Due to the limited flow of the Forbidden City, I only reserved tickets for the afternoon session (entry at 12 o'clock). At this time, I can almost enter the venue after going through the security check. It turns out that the reservation time is not checked at all. Due to the current limit, there are not many people in the security check of the Forbidden City, so we went in and visited soon. I didn't finish shopping until 5 o'clock. Remember to rent an explainer, and the explanation will be played automatically at every point. I originally planned to go to Jingshan Park when I came out of the Forbidden City, but I couldn’t go in without booking tickets in advance, and everyone was too tired to walk, so I went straight to dinner, Beihai Boiled Meat (Museum Store), because I arrived earlier, it happened to be There is a private room, and when we come out, there are already many people in line. At this time, the people from the car rental company had already delivered the car we rented to the door of the restaurant. This is good, and we can travel by car in the next 3 days.

Most of the places to eat or sell snacks in the Forbidden City are in the northerly area on both sides of the central axis. East Line: The closest place to the Meridian Gate should be near the Donghua Gate. There is a small shop on the right hand side of the Meridian Gate. Sell some simple drinks, water, ice cream, sausage and the like. There is a Forbidden City restaurant near Jianting in the north, which sells simple meal sets, fried noodles, coffee, etc. The price is a little higher than outside, but there is a serious queue for meals. There is also a Luckin Coffee on the east side of Jianting. There will be hot drinks and snacks, but you can only order online, and the snacks cannot be heated. The taste is average, but the first time you use it, you can get a free cup of coffee or drink, and there are often discounts for hours, so it's okay. There are small shops selling sandwiches, sausages, etc. on the left hand side of the entrance to the Treasure Hall. There is an ice cellar restaurant near Cining Garden on the west line where you can order food, and the ice cellar cafe next to it can buy drinks, coffee, small cakes, and sandwiches. There are seats inside, and you can eat in the hall. The price is slightly higher than outside the scenic spot, but overall it is okay and acceptable.

DAY3: October 5th

Check out after breakfast at 9:00, depart from the Summer Palace at 10:30, and arrive at the Summer Palace at 11:30 (time calculation error, roads are closed everywhere during holidays, wasting a lot of time). Go straight to the Badaling Great Wall (considering the traffic jam on the road and other factors, lunch is ignored), the Beijing-Tibet Expressway is approaching the Badaling Great Wall, and it is really congested for a while, but it is not bad, about half an hour. Arrive at Badaling Great Wall at 3:30. Take the shuttle bus from the parking lot directly to the entrance of the cableway. It may be difficult to climb up the whole journey, mainly considering the state of everyone and children. The cableway was really fast. In less than 2 minutes, we were sent to the north 8th floor. After we came out, we saw a crowd of people. Only then did we feel the huge number of people traveling during the long vacation. Walking forward with the crowd, the steps are really high, children sometimes have to use their hands and feet to go up, and the narrow intersections have to be blocked, and they must pass slowly. In this way, around 5:30, we went down to the foot of the Great Wall. If you have plenty of time and energy, it is still recommended to hike up the Great Wall, which is not as difficult to climb as imagined. When I got down and waited for the shuttle bus, there was a traffic jam. It was already 7:30 when I got the car in the parking lot. I called the Chadaofu B&B in Badaling where I stayed tonight, and found a small battery car to take us into the ancient town of Badaling. Vehicles cannot enter the town and have to park in the parking lot outside. The whole town is basically a B&B, very quiet, dinner is eaten at the B&B, both Sichuan and Beijing dishes are available. The taste is okay, the price is high, and you can eat whatever you want.

DAY4: October 6th

Breakfast at the hotel in the morning, check out at 10:00 and depart from Chongli Taiwu Town (where the 2022 Winter Olympics will be held), the journey takes about 1.5 hours. The road is smooth and there are no cars. Arrived at Taiwu Hotel in Taiwu Town at 11:30. Construction is going on everywhere around the town, including the Olympic Village and stadiums. The road conditions are average but it does not affect the entry and exit of vehicles. The city railway has been connected, and there are shuttle buses to pick up and drop off the town. Check in at the hotel, the hotel comes with a lot of package tickets, movie tickets, cable car tickets, go-karts, golf, archery and other recreational facilities, suitable for children to play. Lunch is at the craft brewery next to the town service center. I eat pizza, pasta and burgers. The taste is not bad. In the afternoon, I took the cable car up the mountain (it is a ski run in winter), and took pictures to check in. Now the seasonal grass is all yellow, not as beautiful as the green in summer, and it has a different style. Taiwu's night was really cold, so we decided to have Chengdu spicy hot pot (Sanchuan) for dinner.

DAY5: October 7th

Get up at 8:30 and have breakfast at the hotel, check out at 10:00 and depart for Grassland Tianlu (Entrance of Huapi Ridge, East Line).

The hotel navigated to Huapiling 1st National Highway and drove for about an hour and a half. At the entrance, I bought a garland for the co-driver and a windmill as props for taking pictures. Before entering the Grassland Road, you must fill up the gas. It is about 120 kilometers away. There are no gas stations and the scenery on the road is beautiful. But drive carefully, there are not many public toilets along the way, so please don't drink so much water, you will have no place to go to the toilet. There are many windmills that generate electricity along the way.

The scenery of the grassland is really beautiful, and it should be even more beautiful in a few days later. Many leaves are slowly turning red. Take pictures on the road, pay attention to safety, try not to take pictures in the middle of the road.

Returning back to Beijing at 3:30 p.m., I encountered a traffic jam again, and arrived at Atour Hotel Beijing South Railway Station at about 9:00 p.m. It is very wise to stay at Atour for the last night. We will check out at 4 o'clock the next day so that we don't have to rush to pack our luggage. Dinner is settled at the food stall below the hotel. The car rental company sent someone to pick up the car on time, which was very convenient.

On October 8th, I got up at 8 o'clock and left Tiananmen Square at 9 o'clock. Today I made an appointment to visit the Chairman Mao Memorial Hall. The same security check, swiping the ID card to enter the venue, took a look at the chairman's body from a distance, and then came out. The whole process only took a few minutes. There are still a lot of tourists in Tiananmen Square, taking pictures and checking in, and then looking for a place for lunch. It is said that Jixianglou, one of the eight buildings in Beijing, has average taste and average service. After dinner, go back to the hotel to pack your luggage and check out at 2:30. The Ctrip special car has arrived at the hotel and sent us to the airport.

The entire 6-day itinerary was very tight, and there were still some places I wanted to visit that I didn’t reach. The main reason was that there were too many people dragging around, and children couldn’t walk. Leave some regrets and play again next time.
