Shahu Lake was originally a wetland. Because there is Helan Mountain not far away, when there is heavy rain every summer, there will be mountain torrents. Such a natural lake has been formed after years of accumulation. At the beginning of the formation of the lake, people here used it to raise fish and increase their income. In order to ensure the water source, they drew water from the Yellow River as a supplementary water source. Seen from a height, Shahu looks like an ingot, so the locals also call it "Yuanbao Lake". Shahu Lake is located in the low-lying area of the monsoon, on the east side of the Helan Mountain Pass. On the other side of the mountain pass is the Alxa Left Banner. The territory of the Left Banner is mainly Tengger, Ulan Bu and two deserts. Brought here, over time, a desert with such a large sand lake has been formed. Before the development and construction, it was the Big Fish Lake of Advance Farm.

Shahu Lake is located inland and belongs to the typical continental climate, belonging to the middle humid zone. The sand lake is dominated by natural landscapes and rich in resources. The six major resource elements of "sand mountains, lake water, reeds, birds, swimming fish, and lotus" are organically combined to form a unique landscape that integrates the water towns of the south of the Yangtze River and the desert scenery. The basic conditions for establishing a national wetland waterfowl nature reserve have been met.
When it comes to Sand Lake, the most attractive thing is its spectacle of interdependent sand and water. Sand and water are originally incompatible, but here, the soft lake water and rough sand dunes complement each other and are completely natural. The sand surrounds the water, and the water surrounds the sand, showing the magical charm of nature to the world. Whenever the sun goes down and I look back at the sand lake, I can see all kinds of cruise ships parked against the shore, the lake is rippling, the reeds are lush, and the golden sand hills open their gentle arms to embrace the sand lake in their arms. Together into the golden sunset. Occasionally, birds soaring into the sky broke the silence of the evening. This situation can really be described as "the sunset on the sand lake shines on the golden sands, and people retreat to the bank of the boat pavilion. A pair of white birds stand by the water, and when they see people, they startle and jump into the reed flowers."

The water in Shahu Lake looks like a vast expanse of mist from a distance, and the water and sky are of the same color; from a close look, the lake is clear, the lake surface is like a mirror, and the bottom of the lake has a gentle slope. It is the best place for swimming and water tourism. The water sports in Shahu include water slides, motor boats, paragliders, self-driving boats, etc. You can choose to play according to your hobbies. There is also such a poignant legend about Shahu Lake:
He Lan, a beautiful Mongolian woman, can write, ride and shoot well. One day, He Lanmu set out to find the original rock paintings in the Tianshan Mountains. On the way, he met Mo Han, a young man of the Dangxiang tribe. Mo Han is tall and handsome, with both civil and military skills, and a bold personality. The two fell in love at first sight, and made a vow of eternal love in private. A year later, news came from both sides that Genghis Khan wanted to take Helan as his concubine, and the Emperor Xixia also wanted to make Mohan his son-in-law. The two vowed to die and decided to elope. On the night of a full moon, He Lan rides a blue steed to the place of first love to meet Mo Han, and they both eat the elixir, the girl turns into a spring lake, and the boy turns into a desert, cuddling together and never being separated. He Lan's personal maid also turned into a reed. Thus forming the unique landform of Shahu Lake. And the horse that He Lan was riding also turned into Mount Helan (Helan is a Mongolian word meaning a green horse), and now the saddle of that horse is still clearly visible on the top of the mountain. To commemorate this love legend, later generations renamed this section of "Tianshan Mountain" as "Helan Mountain". Many years later, Genghis Khan "became a beauty in a rage", sent troops to Xixia, and slaughtered the city with swords and blood. Since then, the Dangxiang clan has disappeared from history, leaving only the majestic royal tombs and the beautiful and unique "Shahu Lake". Of course, this is just a legend.

The reeds on the lake are like a handful of emeralds casually scattered by the sky, scattered naturally and randomly on the calm lake. When the breeze hits, every weak reed sings softly in the wind. The philosopher Pascal once said: "Man is a thinking reed". Indeed, each of us is as thin as a reed in the wind, and human life is also weak and graceful like a reed, with infinite resilience radiating from its weakness. But people always have more brilliance of thought and soul than reeds. The reeds distributed in dots, blocks, and sheets divide the sand lake into spaces of different sizes. Each space seems to be independent but has winding paths. It seems to be far apart but close at hand. In this way, weaving a huge labyrinth on the lake with reeds. And the reeds use this kind of growth method in clusters to resist the invasion of wind and rain with more tenacious vitality and accept the baptism of years. The thick and strong reed pier and dense reed stalks have become the home for birds to inhabit and multiply. According to statistics, there are more than 140 species of animals inhabiting and reproducing in the reeds in the lake, including nearly 100 species of birds, with a total of more than 100,000. The reeds in Shahu not only have strong ornamental value, but also have strong usability. Reed stalks can be used as raw materials for papermaking, rayon, and rayon, and can also be used for weaving mats, curtains and other supplies; reed leaves, reed flowers, reed stems, reed roots, and asparagus can be used as medicine. You can see that the tops of the pavilions around Shahu Lake are all made of reeds, which are very practical for sheltering from wind and rain.
Every morning, the tranquility of Shahu Lake is broken with the opening of big boats, speedboats, and small boats. The boat rides the wind and waves, gallops on the lake, and shuttles among the mazes woven by reeds. Sometimes the wide lake surface flashes in front of us, and sometimes lush reeds flash in front of us. The slightly humid wind blows in front of us, as if bringing us back to the age of innocence. The cruise ship carries happy tourists, enjoying the beauty of this world created by nature. Sometimes the cruise ship startled a group of birds to spread their wings and soar into the sky, and sometimes a big fish jumped out of the water, which made people applaud.
