In 1937, the Anti-Japanese War broke out in an all-round way.

On August 20 of the same year, in order to get rid of the Japanese blockade and allow overseas materials to arrive in Yunnan quickly, Long Yun, then chairman of the Yunnan Provincial Government, proposed the construction of the Yunnan-Myanmar Highway and the Yunnan-Myanmar Railway.

He proposed to build a road starting from Kunming, passing through western Yunnan to northern Myanmar.

At the beginning of 1938, 200,000 road construction troops took to the road one after another, including a large number of children and the elderly.

Including the Han, Yi, Bai, Dai, Hui, Jingpo, Achang, Miao, Lisu, De'ang and other 10 ethnic groups in western Yunnan, everyone brought their own rations and tools to the construction site.

On August 31, 1938, the 959.4-kilometer road from Kunming to Wanding was completed and opened to traffic. It took only 9 months from the start of construction to the opening to traffic, which shocked the world.

This road, which passes through the most mountains in China, crosses the most turbulent river, and winds on the Gaoligong Mountains, has nearly 1,000 kilometers of transportation arteries, and has cost the lives of nearly 3,200 people. life vein.

The Burma Road closely connects the lifeline of the country. Bring the morale of the nation together. The people, expeditionary forces, and overseas Chinese mechanics in Southeast Asia have made great contributions to this lifeline.

The Nanyang Overseas Chinese Mechanics Memorial Hall was built in 2005.

In 1937, under the leadership of Tan Kah Kee, more than 3,200 overseas Chinese from Southeast Asia, who were skilled in technology, arrived in Yunnan in nine batches to build the Yunnan-Myanmar Highway, and became the construction army on the lifeline of Yunnan-Myanmar.

During the Anti-Japanese War in western Yunnan, one-third of the overseas Chinese mechanics gave their lives on this bloody road.

Most of these young people from Nanyang came from wealthy backgrounds, and for a passionate patriotism, they devoted themselves to the bloody land of Yunnan.

In the memorial hall, the names and photos of all mechanics are engraved on the stele.

Leaving the memorial hall, standing on the top of the hill overlooking the whole small town, the Burmese countryside on the opposite side is shrouded in smoke, rain and mist, a quiet and comfortable scene.

From the Nanyang Overseas Chinese Mechanics Anti-Japanese Memorial Hall, drive for 2 hours to the Yizhai Scenic Spot on the border between China and Myanmar. This magical Dai village is located next to the No. 71 boundary marker in Ruili.
