Foreword: Starting from Changsha in August 2019, I completed a 14-day free travel tour in Xinjiang, Qinghai, and Gansu provinces (the original plan was to travel through 4 provinces in 15 days, but the trip to Huashan, Shaanxi was canceled for some reason). The "traveling free travel" mentioned here means that more than 90% of the itinerary relies on public transportation (airplanes, trains, shuttle buses) and taxis (a small amount of chartered cars), flying from Changsha to Urumqi, then to Kanas, and finally returning to the general railway, The high-speed rail went south all the way back to Changsha. This strategy does not talk about it in general, it is operable, practical and valuable, and it is accurate and detailed in the calculation and content arrangement of each time period.
There are many scenic spots and long lines. In order to ensure a smooth journey and experience what you want to experience the most, use your spare time half a year in advance to repeatedly check the map, start making arrangements for routes, strategies, etc., book tickets, tickets and hotels in short supply, and double check every detail.
The purpose of this article is to record and keep good memories forever; the second is to share and feel the fun of free travel. Follow-up will also push the independent travel itinerary of each line, all for their own field experience. No matter where you start to go to Xinjiang, this journey guide is very practical. Explain 4 points:
1. The itinerary focuses on the selection of characteristic hotels, scenic spots above 4A level and world cultural heritage landscapes. Focus on comfort and safety, suitable for high-quality parent-child travel, repelling long-distance walking and long-distance car rides, some must-see attractions for tour groups are not included in the itinerary.
2. Unless otherwise specified, the traffic in the city is by taxi; the time of flights and trains are all in August 2019, which will be slightly different from the current one.
3. All expenses in the whole process are lower than the quotation of the tour group (this is not easy), but the hotel grade (three nights in a special hotel, two nights in a four-star hotel, and the rest are three-star and quality chain hotels), food standards and transportation comfort ( Double flights, soft sleepers, and hard sleeper private rooms for tourist trains in Xinjiang) are far superior to tour groups. Under the premise of ensuring that the scenic spots in the route plan are completed, you can fly but not trains, you can use soft sleepers but not hard sleepers, and you can use high-speed rail but not ordinary railways.
4. The relationship between personal culture and style, focusing on introducing practical information such as transportation arrangements and hotel choices, and presenting scenic spots mainly through pictures, briefly introducing feelings, and not going to grand poems and life insights such as distant places.
The first day Changsha - Urumqi
1. Go to Urumqi Huanghua Airport (8:00) - Diwopu Airport (12:50)

Our itinerary is to fly directly to Kanas the next day. The biggest advantage of staying in this hotel is that it is close to the airport. After leaving the airport, you can walk about 300 meters to get there. At the same time, it provides considerate service and sends a car to the terminal. If you want to go to Tianshan Tianchi, you can choose other hotels in the urban area.
3. Visit the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Museum (4A Scenic Spot)
The name of the museum was inscribed by Chairman Zhu De when he visited Xinjiang in 1959. The museum has a total of 3 floors. The Xinjiang ethnic customs display and Xinjiang ancient mummy (Loulan female corpse) are its characteristics. It is the first batch of national first-class museums.
4. Visit Xinjiang International Grand Bazaar (4A Scenic Area)

There are all kinds of Xinjiang specialty food and handicrafts. The Silk Road Sightseeing Tower in the center of the square has paintings and exhibitions on each floor. You can climb to the top of the tower to overlook the city scenery. Under the sightseeing tower, citizens often dance happily to the singing.
5. Return to the hotel
There are two ways, the first one is to take a taxi. The second is the subway. There is Erdaoqiao subway station next to the Grand Bazaar. You can sit directly at the terminal station International Airport Station and walk about 400 meters to the hotel after exiting the station.

Day 2 Urumqi - Kanas
1. Go to Kanas Diwopu Airport (8:25)—Kanas Airport (9:50)

(1) From Urumqi to Kanas, direct flight is the right choice. If you take the morning-to-sunset train, you will arrive at the terminal Beitun at about 6:00 am, and you will have to change cars for nearly 6 hours to reach the entrance of the scenic spot. The journey will be very tiring.
(2) Kanas Airport, a special feeder airport for scenic spots, is small and exquisite. After getting off the plane, you can walk more than 100 meters to the exit. It was originally a seasonal airport.
2. Go to Kanas Scenic Area (5A)
(1) Kanas is a scenic spot that has become famous in Xinjiang in recent years. Compared with Tianshan Tianchi, Kanas is more attractive to tourists. Both belong to alpine lakes. If you choose one of the two and choose based on comprehensive evaluation, it must be Kanas, but if you have enough time and a strong desire to check in (Tianshan Tianchi belongs to the world natural heritage, Kanas is not), Tianshan Tianchi is also available. go and see.
(2) After two car transfers, it reaches the traffic station of the core scenic spot, which is the transfer center of the scenic spot. The beautiful scenery continues along the way, and Kanas is getting better.
3. Stay in Kanas Linhai Villa (special hotel)
It is highly recommended to stay, the only official hotel in the scenic area, and the good impression of Kanas has increased again. This is the leading hotel in the entire Kanas scenic area.
(1) Let’s talk about convenience first. The hotel is located on the mountainside next to the transfer center, and there is a special car to take the guests to and from the transfer center and the hotel. You can also take a walk to the old Kanas village at the foot of the mountain through a step road. Provide lunch and dinner, the price is reasonable, the taste is right.
(2) The hotel rooms are all small wooden houses scattered among the grass. They are connected by plank roads. When you open the windows, you can see butterflies playing. In the distance are mountains and snowy spruces, pure blue sky and white clouds. Houses of various colors. Except for the staying guests, there are no other tourists here, and the surrounding area is very quiet. Being in such an environment and atmosphere, the mood is self-evident.
4. Visit the Fish Watching Platform
(1) Take a car to park at the middle of the mountain, and you need to walk a thousand steps for 20-30 minutes (depending on your personal situation) to reach the highest fish viewing platform, which is the best place to overlook Kanas. You can have a panoramic view of mountains, forests and green lakes.

5. Visit Kanas Old Village
After dinner, take a walk to the old village of Kanas, where you can buy fruits and snacks. There are many homestays in the old village, but the accommodation conditions are far inferior to Linhai Villa.

3. Go to Hemu
(1) Depart for the "God's private land" - Hemu, because there will be a unique and experiential wilderness hotel for this itinerary, and take pictures of the most beautiful light and shadow at sunset.

(1) Like Kanas Linhai Villa, this is the only official hotel in Hemu (these two hotel tour groups are absolutely impossible to arrange, you can only do your homework by yourself). RV parent-child room in the alpine grassland (with a suite inside, can accommodate four people). Hotel rooms are very tight and need to be booked in advance (there is only one room of this type). We booked this room in late May, and the time was accurate to check in on August 5th, and we arrived as scheduled.

(2) Around the hotel, in addition to the caravan parent-child room, there is also a caravan room (suitable for double occupancy). These two room types have separate areas. In addition, there are many tent rooms and caravan apartment rooms. Each room type has its own bathroom, especially the tent room. The small space has all kinds of facilities, and the experience should be good.
(3) During this period, you don’t have to go anywhere after putting down your luggage for a short rest. Sit at a small table with a pot of wine and chat with the breeze. Wait for the dusk to fall, or walk around the grass at will, and enjoy your private home between heaven and earth grassland.

1. Visit Hemu Village
(1) In the early morning, go to the viewing platform halfway up the mountain behind Hemu Village to watch the morning fog. This is almost a necessary way to play. The photos of Hemu that are widely circulated on the Internet are all taken from this viewing angle, but the best time is not now, but autumn (the following is the online picture).

2. Go to Beitun Railway Station
This journey is the longest journey by car, and it takes about 5-6 hours (Xinjiang highways have limited speed for cars), so be mentally prepared and prepare food. This distance can only be done by car, there is no other shortcut.
3. The choice of colorful beach
After arriving in Burqin County on the way, there is a nearby scenic spot called Wucai Beach, which is a little famous and must be visited by tour groups. However, it is understood that the viewing rate is not high, and the mosquito bites are severe. It belongs to the kind that regrets whether to go or not. It is recommended to give up, because there is not enough time.
4. Special tourist train
We took the summer double-decker tourist train (only in summer), and there are K songs on the train, and there is also a separate shower room for bathing. For tourists coming from Hemu, this is very necessary and worth experiencing, but What I can experience more is "water is as expensive as oil".
Insert the card after recharging, and the amount will decrease rapidly as soon as the tap is turned on, which is not as fast as usual.
5. Go to Yining Y958 Beitun City (21:16) - Yining (8:46).
The tourist train is different from ordinary trains. Its hard sleeper is a four-person private room, and the soft sleeper is a double private room. There are four of us, and the hard sleeper is just right. The evening came and the morning arrived, and the time to arrive in Yining was just right.

1. Stay in a hotel in Yining☆☆☆
There is a Hunan restaurant nearby, within walking distance. You can take a full rest in the hotel in the morning and noon (the benefits that the tour group does not have), the outdoor temperature is high, it is not suitable to play too early.
2. Visit Hanjia Princess Memorial Hall
The memorial hall is not big, and there are not many furnishings, mainly sculptures and graphic introductions, but it is still recommended. Princess Jieyou, whose name is gentle and elegant, is the consort princess who contributed the most to the Han Dynasty. That period of history and her tortuous and rough life are admirable. There is also a museum of Ili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture nearby, which you can visit when you have time.

3. Visit Kazanqi Folk Village

Many houses on the side of the road are rich in history and age, you can go in and visit them. Day 7 Yining-Jongkush Terrace
1. Go to Jon Kush Terrace
Qiongkushtai is the gathering place of Kazakhs. The Kalajun Grassland around Yining is a popular arrangement for tour groups. There is no choice for tour groups in Qiongkushtai for a one-day round trip. But you can live in the grassland here, and the experience is stronger.

Day 9 Urumqi - Turpan
1. Go to Turpan D8802 Urumqi (8:40) - Turpan North (9:38)
At present, the Xinjiang bullet train line starts to connect to the mainland from Urumqi, and the train from Yining to Urumqi in the west only has the ordinary railway line. 1 hour after arriving at the station, transfer to the bullet train to Turpan. Today is the last day of the 9-day itinerary in Xinjiang. When I arrived in Turpan, I finally felt the scorching heat (look at the color of the sky). There are three selected attractions in Turpan.
2. Visit Karez Paradise (Old Well)
Karez is a special irrigation system in desert areas. It is also known as the three major ancient Chinese projects together with the Great Wall and the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal.
3. Visit Turpan Grape Valley
Grape Valley, which was introduced in elementary school Chinese textbooks, has a long history of fame. Among them, Frog Lane is the filming location of "Where Are We Going, Dad 2015", and the Western singer Wang Luobin Music Art Museum and the former residence of Avanti also have their own characteristics.
4. Tour the world cultural heritage - the ancient city of Jiaohe
The world's largest, oldest and best-preserved adobe-built city. In 2014, Jiaohe Ancient City was listed as one of the "Silk Road: Road Network of Chang'an-Tianshan Corridor" jointly applied by China, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. It has been successfully included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

5. Go to Liuyuan Z70 Turpan North (15:21) - Liuyuan (21:31)
The journey takes more than 6 hours, it is recommended to choose a hard sleeper. Taking this train means leaving Xinjiang and entering Gansu. In addition to the lingering scenery, there are also fragrant melons and honeydew melons worth aftertaste. The price is only 6-8 yuan each, which is 50 yuan compared to Changsha. It's much cheaper for about 1 yuan, and it's more sweet.
6. Stay at Liutie Hotel in Guazhou
Originally, we bought a sleeper ticket for the evening train to Dunhuang, but the train was suspended that day, which disrupted the plan and temporarily decided to stay in Liuyuan for one night. It is only 50 meters away from the station. The hotel in the small town has such a clean and tidy environment, which is satisfying.

Day 10 Willow Garden - Dunhuang
1. Go to Dunhuang at 8:15 in the morning
The journey takes about 2 hours and 15 minutes. On the way, you can feel the desolation of the west along the way.

The transportation location is convenient, and free shuttle service to the airport and railway station is provided.
3. Go to the Mogao Grottoes Digital Center and watch two digital movies
20 minutes each. You don’t have to queue up too early for the first show, the theater is not big, and the location hardly affects the viewing effect; after watching the first show, you have to enter the dome theater directly from the back door to watch the second show, and sit a little behind the first show. It is easier to sit in a good seat in the dome theater, and the further back you sit, the more shocking the effect.
4. Take the scenic shuttle bus to the cave area
After entering the cave area, don't look around, go directly to the numbered area to queue up, and visit first.
5. Tour the world cultural heritage - Mogao Grottoes
Be sure to book tickets (A-type tickets) 30 days in advance, otherwise it will be a pity to travel thousands of kilometers. It is strictly forbidden to take pictures in the cave, and consciously abide by it. We entered the Mogao Grottoes on August 12 and completed the reservation on July 13. All temporary emergency tickets were sold out that morning. Tour and round-trip transportation is about 4 hours.
5. Return to the hotel
time after lunch break. A hotel not to be missed in Dunhuang, with a park-level environment. It can be called a huge manor-style layout, with trees covering the sky and sun, allowing you to stroll in the courtyard.

This hotel can provide a special driver's room, so that the driver of the chartered car can have a place to rest at night and be considerate. Beds are limited, please contact the hotel front desk to make a reservation in advance. The overall environment is very good in Chaka Town.

There are two scenic spots to choose from, Sky Realm and Sky No. 1. The latter is newly developed. We chose Sky No. 1, which has relatively few tourists.

Thirteenth day Xining - Tianshui - Huashan

At Xining Station at the foot of the mountain, the location for taking pictures is right at the hotel entrance, and you can enter the station and get on the train when you go out.
2. Visit the world cultural heritage - Maijishan Grottoes
(1) Re-entering Gansu from Xining, Tianshui South Station to Maijishan Grottoes by car for about 1 hour.
(2) Maiji Mountain is an isolated peak of Xiaolong Mountain, with a height of 142 meters. It is named because the mountain looks like a stack of wheat. Among the four major grottoes in China, Maiji Mountain has a slightly weaker status. Like Jiaohe Ancient City, it is not a separate world cultural heritage, but a site in the "Silk Road: Road Network of Chang'an-Tianshan Corridor". .

3. Go to Zhengzhou G2026 Tianshui South (17:39) - Zhengzhou East (21:36)
(1) Return to Tianshui South Station. The high-speed rail at this time will not only ensure enough time to visit the Maijishan Grottoes, but it will not be too late to arrive in Zhengzhou.
(2) The original plan was to get off at Huashan North Station on the way, and climb Huashan the next day to complete the 15-day crossing of Xinjiang, Gansu, Qinghai and Shaanxi provinces. Unfortunately, my wife was a little tired, so I temporarily canceled this plan and changed it to Directly to the terminal Zhengzhou. In fact, this line also has the world-class scenic spot of Longmen Grottoes in Luoyang, which is one stop before Zhengzhou. If you have time and energy, you can climb Mount Hua first, then visit the Longmen Grottoes, and finally go to Zhengzhou or return to Changsha directly from Luoyang. After entering the Central Plains, the high-speed rail transportation is very convenient.

4. Stay in a hotel in Zhengzhou☆☆☆
The principle of choosing a hotel is not only comfortable and cost-effective, but also whether it provides free pick-up station service. This value-added service is important and will bring great convenience. This hotel met all the conditions. After we got out of the high-speed rail station, we took the pick-up car to check in at the hotel, and then sent it to the high-speed rail station at the agreed time the next day.
