3. Itinerary
D1 (7.29): Chayouhouqi cleared, driving 467 kilometers that day
Itinerary: Beijing - Xiaohaizi Town (Shangdu County) - Baiyinchagan - Ulan Hada Volcano - Baiyinchagan
8.10 mileage 0 km, start. First go to China University of Geosciences to pick up your companions, and then go to the Beijing-Tibet Expressway.
10.00 The mileage is 77 kilometers, and the toll station at Kangzhuang toll station is 35 yuan.
11.50 The mileage is 246 kilometers, Zhangbeibei exits the expressway, and the toll is 70 yuan. Take S344, passing Zhangbei and Shangyi.
From 12.10 to 12.40, eat Datong sliced noodles in a small roadside restaurant, spending 26 yuan.
Arrive at Xiaohaizi Town, Shangdu County at 13.50. Because my parents lived here for a period of time during the Anti-Japanese War, this trip is specially arranged here to see where my parents used to live. Leave after ten minutes.
14.45 The mileage is 397 kilometers, and we arrive at the Baiyinchagan Prairie Pearl Hotel, the best hotel in the area. The standard room is 238 yuan, and we check in (check Ctrip before departure). After a short rest, depart for Ulan Hada Volcano at 15.00. It is only 25 kilometers from Baiyinchagan to the volcano, just navigate to the North Alchemy Furnace directly. Volcano No. 3, the locals call it the North Alchemy Furnace. From Baiyinchagan to the north, you will soon see a street sign that says turn right to Swan Lake. If you don’t stop, keep going. You will arrive at Volcano No. 3 at 15.50. There are many Beijing license plates in the parking lot. Volcano No. 3 has a boardwalk to walk to the top of the mountain. After visiting Volcano No. 3, drive to Volcano No. 4. A tourist service center is being built, including parking lots, restaurants, etc. It is estimated that fees will be charged soon. Afterwards, we drove past Volcano No. 5. Because the mountain was steep and there was no road, we just watched it from a distance. Going forward is Volcano No. 6, which is severely damaged. A circular road is paved with volcanic slag on No. 6 Volcano. You can watch the inner strata of the volcano at close range, but the crater at the top is difficult to reach. Further forward is the Jianshan volcanic chain (should be No. 7 and No. 8 volcanoes) that can be opened up for a while. After coming down, I couldn't find the way to the No. 8 volcano. It was getting late and decided to return.
18.40 The mileage is 467 kilometers. Back to the hotel, I was too lazy to go out. I spent 174 yuan for dinner at the hotel.
Tips:
1. About the volcano: the most famous one is Volcano No. 3, which has built a boardwalk to facilitate reaching the top of the volcano; Volcano No. 4 (Hei Naobao) is about to be built into the tourist center; Volcano No. 5 is relatively steep and has not built a good trail , not easy to get on, but the volcanic form is complete and beautiful from a distance; Volcano No. 6 was once mined and severely damaged. At present, a circular road is paved with volcanic slag. You can watch the inner strata of the volcano at close range, and you can drive or walk Go around the volcano. On the 7th and 8th, you can drive to the foot of the mountain.
2. We chose this route because we are going to Xiaohaizi Town. Otherwise, we can go directly to Jining at high speed and transfer to Baiyinchagan to the volcano. It will take more than 4 hours without traffic jams.
D2 (7.30): Chayouhouqi/Jiningqing, driving 207 kilometers on the day
Itinerary: Baiyinchagan (Chayouhou Banner) - Huitengxile Grassland/Huanghuagou Grassland Tourist Area - Jining District
On 8.20, the mileage is 467 kilometers. After breakfast, leave the hotel, navigate to the north gate of Huanghuagou, pass the 105 provincial road, and arrive at the north gate on 10.20. The scenery is getting better and better after approaching the scenic spot. The blue sky and white clouds, the green prairie and the herds of cattle, sheep and horses are hidden among them, and the background is a large windmill standing tall. Go to the ticket office for consultation, the ticket plus internal transportation package is 235 yuan per person, and the separate ticket is 90 yuan. If you enter from the north gate, you must buy a package ticket, otherwise the distance is far away and the walking time is too long. The service staff suggested that if we are not interested in the scenic spots at the North Gate or if we are short of time, we can go to the South Gate and enter the Flower Grassland. We immediately decided to go to the South Gate, and drove about 4-5 kilometers to reach the South Gate. Next to the visitor center is the Wokuotai Resort. There are rows of yurts for accommodation and a food street. Since it was almost lunch time, there was no food and drink in the scenic area, so we had lunch outside the scenic area and spent 84 yuan. 12.10 Buy tickets to enter (2 people over 60 years old, enjoy half-price tickets). In order to protect the grassland, a wooden plank road was paved. We walked along the plank road to the depths of the grassland, and after turning over a small slope, we came to the "Niudangou Ecological Valley". Then return the same way.
At 14 o'clock, return to the south gate. Because I want to visit relatives in Jining, I navigate directly to Jining North Station, passing through Zhuozi County and G6.
15.40 The mileage is 664 kilometers, arriving near Jining North Station, and staying at the Yuanhai Hotel nearby.

Tips:
1. The Huanghuagou tourist area includes four parts: "Wokuotai Flower Grassland", "Huanghuagou Geological Park", "Huanghuahot Tourist Town" and "Niudangou Ecological Valley". With an average altitude of 2,100 meters, it is the closest Inner Mongolia prairie to Beijing.
2. We entered from the south gate, and only went to Wokuotai Flower Grassland and Niudangou Ecological Valley, and did not buy the internal transportation package of the scenic spot. If you only want to see the grasslands and windmills powered by wind power, you don't need to enter the scenic area, the scenery outside is also very good.
D3 (7.31): Sunny in Sumushan/Yangyuan County, driving 210 kilometers on the day
Itinerary: Jining District - Sumushan Forest Park - Yangyuan County
9.00 The mileage is 674 kilometers, starting after breakfast, navigating Sumushan Forest Park, G6 to G7, high-speed toll 40 yuan, after the county road, the road condition is acceptable.
At 11 o'clock, the mileage is 779 kilometers, and it arrives at the Sumushan parking lot. Buy a ticket to enter, the ticket is 50 yuan (2 people over 60 years old, enjoy half price of the ticket), take the scenic battery car (free), about 1 km to the starting point of the walking plank road. After eating something simple, we started climbing at 11.30. After consulting with the service staff, we chose to go up the mountain from Binglinggou and descend from the birch forest. 13.10 Arrive at the intersection of the two routes of Binglinggou and Baihualin, continue upwards, approaching the peak is an open alpine meadow, and then upwards is the highest peak of Sumu Mountain---Huangshiya, 2334.7 meters above sea level. Climb to the top at 14.00, overlooking the surrounding mountains and boundless scenery. Start down the mountain at 14.10, and return to the gate of the scenic spot at 15.20.
At 15.40, leave Sumu Mountain and navigate Yangyuan County, the toll fee is 10 yuan.
18.00 The mileage is 884 kilometers, arriving in Yangyuan County, staying in Yangyuan Hotel, standard room/double room is 160 yuan. I put down my luggage and went out to look for food. I was lucky to find a village restaurant. The dishes are large and delicious and not expensive. It is the best meal of this trip, and the cost is 93 yuan. Back to the hotel after dinner to rest.
Tips:
Sumushan Forest Park, Xinghe County, Inner Mongolia is located 45 kilometers south of Xinghe County, Ulanqab City. It is bordered by Yanggao and Tianzhen counties of Shanxi Province in the south, and Fengzhen City in the west. It is the junction of Shanxi, Hebei and Mongolia provinces (regions). The average altitude of the forest area is more than 2000 meters, which is the highest point of Ulanqab City. , the altitude is 2334.7 meters. It is not well known at present, but the scenery is very good. It turned out to be a state-owned forest farm. We agreed to come back to Sumu Mountain in late September to enjoy its gorgeous autumn colors.
D4 (8.1): Sunny in Yuxian/Mentougou, driving 261 kilometers that day
Itinerary: Yangyuan County—Kaiyang Fort—Nuanquan Town (Yu County)—Yuzhou Ancient City—Yanjiatai Village (Mentougou)
8.30 The mileage is 884 kilometers, starting after breakfast at the hotel, refueling for 325 yuan, and navigating Kaiyang Castle.
9.10 The mileage is 920 kilometers, and it reaches Kaiyang Castle, a desolate and dilapidated thousand-year-old castle with few tourists. Parking at the entrance of the castle, an old man in his 70s came over and said to take us to the inn he opened here. When we entered the yard, our eyes were full of green plants and flowers, like an oasis in the desert. If we knew there was an inn here before we set off, we might choose to live here and admire the old castle under the sunset. Walking inside and outside the old castle, most of the buildings were seriously damaged due to disrepair for a long time, and only a few houses were well preserved. The entire castle is exposed to the scorching sun, hot and sunny. 10.30 Leave the castle and navigate Nuanquan Town in Yu County. Arrived at Nuanquan Town at 11.40, drove around the town, the impression was not very good, dirty and messy, drove to Sanhetai Inn, the price of the very simple room was 198 yuan, I felt it was not worth it. The original plan to live in Nuanquan Town was canceled temporarily. At noon, I really don’t want to see any old castles, so I navigate directly to Yuxian County.
12.00 The mileage is 989 kilometers. I had lunch at the private kitchen in the old place of Yu County, and then drove to the ancient city of Yuzhou to see the Drum Tower and so on. The surrounding area is very dilapidated. 13.50 left. Because the time is relatively loose, I did not take the high speed, but chose National Highway 109 to see the scenery along the way.
Enter Beijing at 16.00, it is the rainy season, Xiaolongmen, Baihua Mountain, Longmenjian and other scenic spots are not open, but the scenery along the way is not bad.
17.30 The mileage is 1145 kilometers, arriving at Yanjiatai Village. Because I temporarily decided to go to Longmenjian the next day, I stayed in the farmhouse in Yanjiatai Village, which is next to the passenger station. After I stayed, I learned that the scenic spot was not open, but it was too late, so I had to stay. The altitude here is more than 700 meters, and it is cooler at night. Accommodation is 40 yuan per person, and dinner consumption is 88 yuan.
D5 (8.2): Beijing is sunny, driving 180 kilometers that day
Itinerary: Yanjiatai Village (Mentougou) - Yanhe City (Mentougou) - home
7.50 The mileage is 1145 kilometers, starting after breakfast in the farmhouse (10 yuan/person). Because Longmenjian and the surrounding scenic spots are not open, I think of the Yongding River Canyon that I once hiked. The scenery is very good. Along National Highway 109, pass by Zhaitang Reservoir, first go to Yanhe City, then drive along Zhaiyou Road to the border of Hebei, where motor vehicles are prohibited from passing (motor vehicles can drive to Youzhou Village in 2012), get off and walk For a section, I feel that the scenery is not as good as before. The roadbed has been artificially raised, and it is impossible to walk on the banks of the Yongding River. Go back to Yanhe City on the same road, look at the farmhouse we used to live in, walk around, go back to National Highway 109, and continue on the way back.
