When you come to Beijing, you usually have to go to the Great Wall once. When it comes to the Great Wall, Badaling is the most famous. It is believed that the Badaling Great Wall is the most authentic, and other Great Walls are parallel imports. However, ordinary Beijingers would not come to this place. It is too crowded and the traffic is too congested. When you come here, you can only see groups of people, and you can’t feel the real style and historical connotation of the Great Wall. There is no fun.

Speaking of parallel imports, Beijing really has a Great Wall of Water. There used to be some "water units" in Beijing who organized one-day tours and said they would take you to see the Great Wall, and what you saw was the Great Wall of Water. Later the trick took a hit. But the Water Great Wall is a section of the Great Wall near Beijing, and it is the real Great Wall. But the Badaling Great Wall is 100 years younger.

In addition to the Water Great Wall, there are many Great Wall attractions near Beijing: Mutianyu, Jiangjun Pass, Jiankou, Huangya Pass, etc. Anyway, if you go north from Beijing, you will find genuine Great Wall everywhere. They each have their own characteristics, and they are all places favored by photographers in Beijing. Especially the Jinshanling Great Wall, which has become more and more famous recently, is more and more loved by photography lovers. The transportation of these scenic spots is very convenient (you can check them online). People who come to Beijing from other places can visit these places if they have time after experiencing the congestion and troubles of Badaling.

I especially recommend the Jinshanling Great Wall. Before the epidemic, I would go there many times a year. There are few people there, the city walls are simple and vicissitudes, and the accommodation is convenient, no need to climb mountains, suitable for young and old people.

The Great Wall in Beijing does not represent the whole of the Great Wall. From Shanhaiguan to Dunhuang, from east to west, the Great Wall is built using local materials. The eastern section uses more masonry materials, while the west gradually uses soil. When we arrived at Dunhuang, there wasn't even much soil left, so we used sand. Sand cannot build a wall, so we build it with a layer of sand and a layer of grass. In some places that are too desolate, they don't even have to build a wall, just build a Tuguan city, and someone will take care of it. In terms of authenticity and history, they are more interesting than Badaling. '
