When most of the cold currents in the northern part of the country are coming and heavy snow is flying, Xishuangbanna, which is located on the border of the motherland, is still warm and warm, with flowers blooming and green trees competing. It is a famous winter resort in China and is known as the Warm Capital of China.

This time, Xishuangbanna is a self-driving tour. In 3 days, I checked in the Zongfo Temple, Manting Park, Shwedagon Pagoda, Xishuangjing Lighting Night Market, Wild Elephant Valley, Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and went deep into Dai Township to visit the super here. The original ecological Manzhang Village, the itinerary can be described as perfect.

When I got out of the airport and picked up the car, I saw the sign of Xishuangbanna National Key Scenic Area, and I was very excited. The airport is very close to the city, only 8 kilometers away, and it takes only ten minutes to drive there.

Zongfo Temple

One of the must-see attractions in Xishuangbanna tourism is the Zongfo Temple, and my homestay is next to the Zongfo Temple, so it is very convenient to visit.

Zongfo Temple is the highest Buddhist temple in Xishuangbanna. According to the introduction in front of the temple, the Dai language name of Zongfo Temple is Wabaji, and "wa" means temple. "Ba" means forest. "Auspicious" means the abbreviation given to the Lonely Garden in Jidalin, where the Buddha once spent 25 rain retreats. Therefore, "wabaji" means a beautiful and quiet forest ashram like Jidalin to Lonely Garden.

The Zongfo Temple was first built in 615 AD and has a history of more than 1,400 years. The founders were two eminent monks from Myanmar. It is said that it was the first great Buddhist temple built in Xishuangbanna after the introduction of Southern Buddhism to Xishuangbanna.

In ancient times, all the people in Xishuangbanna believed in Buddhism. It is said that every village had a Buddhist temple at that time. The Zongfo Temple is the highest-level Buddhist temple in charge of the entire Xishuangbanna area, and all Buddhist activities announced throughout the territory will be sworn in here. To this day, the royal monastery of the ancient Dai king still governs more than 590 monasteries of all sizes in Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture.

Since the completion of the Zongfo Temple, the previous buildings have been damaged due to various reasons such as wars. Now this one was rebuilt later, but the architectural style is still very different from other parts of the country.

The temple architecture here is more inclined to the Thai style.

For example, there are exactly nine pagodas on the main entrance, and the number of pagodas on the top is also odd, resplendent and beautiful.

The sculptures in the temple are very exquisite. These railings are all made in the shape of golden dragons, which are lifelike and vivid.

Seeing the magnificent Buddhist temples and pagodas in Thai style architecture, will you have the illusion of being in Thailand? In fact, this is the traditional architectural style of the Dai people in Xishuangbanna.

There are bell towers and drum towers on both sides of the main hall. The towers are all wooden structures, and there are some wood-carved human statues on them.

There are people with masks and fangs.

The Buddhist Academy and the Zongfo Temple are in the same courtyard and are not open to tourists.

The side of the Buddhist Academy.

The Xishuangbanna General Buddhist Temple and Buddhist Academy covers an area of more than 3,000 square meters, surrounded by walls to form a rectangular courtyard. The old temple gate is still preserved on the south side of the courtyard, which is connected to Manting Park.

The white pagoda, the tour guide said it was the mausoleum of the last Dai king.

Tips:

Zongfo Temple is located on Baji Road, Jinghong City, Xishuangbanna Prefecture

Tickets are free

The road in front of the temple is strictly controlled, and random parking is not allowed.

Manting Park

Manting Park is just behind the Zongfo Temple. As the oldest park in Xishuangbanna, it has a history of more than one thousand years. It used to be the imperial garden of the Dai king. place.

Legend has it that a beautiful Dai princess played here, was also attracted by the scenery of the garden, and her soul stayed in the garden. After returning to the palace, she was in a trance.

Later, the Dai king asked the national teacher and learned that the princess's soul stayed in the park, and immediately dispatched the best gardeners in the country to collect the most rare tree species in the Xishuangbanna forest into the park. The king of Dai named the imperial garden Manting, which means "garden of souls" in Dai.

After buying the tickets, I entered the park, and my eyes were full of tall green plants, with a variety of plants and flowers, which made me feel the tropical style of Southeast Asia.

In the garden, there is a kind of evergreen big tree, ancient iron knife wood, which is named for its hard material and difficult to penetrate.

In the garden, there are not only natural landscapes such as flowers, plants and trees, but also artificially cultivated exotic flowers and cultural buildings with strong Dai characteristics.

Manfeilong White Tower is white as a whole. It consists of a mother tower and eight small towers around it.

The tower group is built on a large circular base, with the mother tower in the center, and the surrounding sub-towers surround the mother tower like stars and moons.

There is a Buddhist niche in each sub-pagoda, and there is a clay sculpture phoenix flying on it.

There are three major themes in Mantingyu Garden: Dai royal culture, Buddhist culture, and ethnic customs and culture.

These Dai buildings are very beautiful in contrast to the flowers and plants in the park.

You can max out your circle of friends by taking pictures at any time.

This city center tower is the central building of the city. The building above is a typical architectural feature of the Dai royal family. The whole building is painted with "golden water" painted oil paintings. Look at the layers of eaves stacked like mountains, and the golden roof is dazzling.

The windows in the tower are also carved with various golden petals, which are also very beautiful.

There are four gods at the base of the tower, they are the patron saints of the Dai people.

The murals on the ceiling depict scenes of Dai people celebrating and living, praying for a good year.

There are many exotic flowers and trees in Manting Park, like this bougainvillea, a tree has three colors, and they each compete for beauty. It opened my eyes.

This is the first time I have seen white flowers. What you see in Guangzhou is mostly pink.

Also orange.

Can you guess what this building is for? The answer is, cafes.

The railings are also carved with dragons, which is very special and definitely not seen in other cities in China.

This tower is a bit like the ancient city of Thai Kesu.

The plants here grow very well. There are also many types, so you will feel very comfortable walking around in it.

When I came here, it happened to be raining. After the rain, the sky cleared and the air was very fresh.

You can also cruise in the garden and watch performances, but you should refer to the announcement in the park to watch the performances. During the epidemic, many performances were suspended.

What to eat in Xishuangbanna

Xishuangbanna is a paradise for foodies, and all kinds of Dai-style delicacies are full of praise.

The characteristic flavor of Dai flavor minority. Barbecue is the main focus, and the supper culture of Xingguang Night Market is very distinctive. This is the only city in China where all people barbecue, and the whole city has barbecue. Night market food tour.

The Starlight Night Market doesn't start until dark. Now it's dinner time, I'll go to the night market to have supper after dinner.

There are no people in the Shwedagon Pagoda Temple during the day, so punch a card and go to eat.

There are many elephant statues on both sides of the main entrance.

Meals are not expensive. The first dish is curry squid, which is very generous. Eggs are accompanied by curry and squid, and some green onions are sprinkled on top.

Shrimp curry, Xishuangbanna is also called Little Thailand. The taste of the food here is actually similar to the eating habits of Thailand. Both like coffee and hot and sour things.

Pork rice with some cucumber and hot and sour sauce.

Tom Yum Kung soup also has a variety of seafood, such as shrimp, crab, squid, etc., with a hot and sour taste and a delicious appetizer.

The must-eat food in Xishuangbanna is the Dai-flavored roast chicken, which is super delicious. "Freshly killed and roasted" is a major feature of the Dai-flavored roast chicken here. It will be placed on a tray of banana leaves. Serve it up, dip some secret chili powder, the taste will be more crispy, delicious.

The Dai snacks in the Xingguang Night Market are also worth a try. I recommend the Youchoxinguan and Grilled Fish with Lemongrass. They taste very good.

The Dai people's barbecue is so primitive and simple, they all use bamboo sticks, and the price is not expensive.

There are many choices of grilled fish, not expensive, 25 yuan for tilapia.

There is also roasted pork belly, 50 yuan a piece, which is a little expensive, but the farm pigs are free-range, and the ingredients are good, so they taste different.

Starlight Night Market

The night market is an important tourist attraction in Xishuangbanna and one of the ways for tourists to experience the life and culture of local civilians.

After experiencing the tropical rainforest scenery of Xishuangbanna during the day, returning to the urban area at night to experience the Starlight Night Market here is the best relaxing itinerary.

You can find a lot of Thai or Burmese products in the night market, as well as some Buddhist incense, etc. There are so many things to choose from, pick one and take it home as a souvenir.

Coconuts, Thai durians, Thai pineapples, and mangoes are all mouth-watering.

The Starlight Night Market not only has a variety of stalls for eating, drinking and having fun, but also introduces some Dai dance performances. It is very beautiful to watch the Dai girls dance barefoot. I have seen them in Cambodia before, and they are similar. I can’t see these dances. the difference.

The Starlight Night Market is right next to the Mekong River, the longest river in Southeast Asia, flowing through Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam, and flowing into the South China Sea in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. In China, the river section is called the Lancang River, which originates from the Tanggula Snow Mountain on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.

The Lancang River is regarded as holy water by the Dai people. The best way to experience this river is to take a boat tour on the Meigong River, 30 yuan per person, and watch the lights on both sides of the river.

The boat drove slowly, passing through the wooden bridges of the night market one by one, which was quite romantic.

Shwedagon Pagoda

Because Xishuangbanna is geographically close to Myanmar and Thailand, its ethnic culture is more exotic than many cities in China. For example, pagoda temples in Jinghong City can be seen everywhere. Now I will take you to see the night view of the iconic scenic spot in Jinghong City, the Dajin Pagoda Temple.

Under the night, colorful lights shine from all directions of Jinghong Shwedagon Pagoda, which is exquisite.

According to the aerial photography, the brightly lit Shwedagon Pagoda is on the banks of the Mekong River, connected with the Starlight Night Market. The whole tower is 66.6 meters high, implying that one river connects six countries. (China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam)

The Shwedagon Pagoda is in the form of a pagoda forest. The big pagoda is in the center of the pagoda. Inside is the Xishuangbanna Beiye Sutra Museum. There are four entrances in the east, west, south, north, and many sphinx Buddhas under the Buddha. These five pagodas are the symbols of the five Buddhas of Kashaba, Gotama, Medea, Kagu Three Towers, and Gona Gamana.

These buildings are so dazzling in the night sky, they look a bit like four sacks of white corn poured into the bustling city.

The Buddhist relics are enshrined on the top of the temple tower.

The statue of the elder Wubaguda is called "Arhat who subdues demons and eliminates disasters" among the people. He is a man of the Mauryan Dynasty in ancient India. This Buddha statue is said to have been shaped by Thai artisans.

The colored lights on the base will emit different colors, matching the golden pagoda around, the contrast is obvious, it is very beautiful.

On both sides of the steps of the Shwedagon Pagoda are two lifelike statues of dragons. The small dragon scales are pasted with glass of various colors, which are exquisite. If you look carefully, you can find that the dragon with its head held high is actually spit out from the mouth of another white dragon, isn't it amazing?

Just after it rained, the water on the ground reflected the golden pagoda. The golden eaves are really magnificent and magnificent.

The peacock on the eaves of the pavilion is a symbol of auspiciousness, happiness, beauty and kindness in the hearts of the Dai people. Inside the pagoda is an Emerald Buddha carved from the Mekong River stone.

At the back door is the golden statue of the most blessed disciple, Venerable Sivali.

Under the tower, there are patron saints in every corner.

There is a characteristic solid small pagoda in each of the four corners. The four pagodas represent the four regions, namely Myanmar, Chiang Rai, Thailand, Luang Prabang, Laos, and Chiang Mai, Thailand.

The sphinx beasts around the small pagoda guard the pagoda, made of ceramics.

Copper umbrellas are all hollow on the top, with exquisite patterns.

Under the lights, the pagoda is resplendent and golden, shining golden light in the night sky.

Generally speaking, Xishuangbanna has an exotic style that is not found in other cities in China. When you come here, you can experience the religious culture that can be seen everywhere, as well as the very unique Dai architecture. Feeling the style of Southeast Asia here is quite tasteful.

Play Tips:

The Shwedagon Pagoda Temple and the Starlight Night Market are together. Tickets are free, but you need to scan the QR code to make an appointment and register before you can enter.
The Starlight Night Market has a variety of special snacks of the Dai people. You can watch the dance performances of the Dai people and love beauty. You can rent a piece of glittering Dai people and costumes to take pictures and play.

Manzhang Village

Xishuangbanna is inhabited by the Dai people. For thousands of years, they have created and formed unique traditional customs and lifestyles in this rich and fertile land

Among the many tourist cities in my country, Xishuangbanna is the most charming city, and the culture of the Dai people is one of the most charming scenery in Xishuangbanna tourism.

The Dai nationality is one of the minority nationalities in my country, but it is the main ethnic group in Thailand and Laos. This nation is widely distributed in Southeast Asian countries, and each country has a different name for this nation. Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam are called "Thai", my country is called Dai, Myanmar is called "Shan", and Laos is called "Lao".

Friends who have traveled to Thailand, Myanmar and Cambodia will have the illusion of being in a Southeast Asian country when they arrive in Xishuangbanna, which is caused by the exoticism of the Dai architecture.

If you want to experience the Dai culture and customs more deeply, I recommend going to Manzhang Village, which is more than 30 kilometers away from Jinghong City.

Under the aerial photography, the whole village is surrounded by a large tropical rainforest. The village is full of very simple and primitive old buildings of the Dai nationality. Every household has planted a lot of flowers and plants. Living in ancient materials is quiet and natural. It is a very original ecology in Xishuangbanna. ancient Dai villages.

Manzhang, in Dai language, is translated as an elephant-infested village. This is because in ancient times, farmers in the village helped the chieftain raise elephants, so Manzhang Village got its name.

In Manzhang Village, you can see that every household lives in this kind of wooden stilted buildings. The first floor is elevated, where sundries are piled up, and the second floor is a bedroom for people to live in.

This kind of house design is the embodiment of the wisdom of the ancestors of the Dai people. Because Xishuangbanna is humid and rainy, and there are many snakes, insects and wild animals. In order to prevent snakes and insects from crawling into the room, the Dai people specially made the pillars supporting the house into square shapes.

The alleys in Manzhang Village are relatively narrow, and the roads are still straight. Every household will plant some flowers and green plants, as well as tropical fruit trees such as banana trees, grapefruit trees, papayas, and pineapples.

The towering bodhi trees and the unique Dai wooden houses can be seen everywhere; the villagers live a simple and unadorned life, because they have retained many traditional Dai cultures.

In this living "Museum of Dai Culture". Here you can experience many Dai handicraft projects of the Dai people.

Such as Dai papermaking, slow wheel pottery making, elephant foot drum making, Dai boxing, Zhangha, Dai Gaosheng, weaving bamboo baskets and hook fishing nets, Dai brocade, engraving shell leaf scriptures and so on.

Among them, Dai papermaking and Dai brocade are also national intangible cultural heritage projects.

There are five steps in Dai papermaking, which are soaking, steaming, cooking, pounding, pouring and drying paper.

The raw material for papermaking is the bark of the tree.

The paper model is made of homemade earthen cloth and bamboo slices, which is exactly the same as the papermaking method recorded in "Qi Min Yao Shu" in the Northern Wei Dynasty.

What I make here is grass flower paper, which is to put some flowers and leaves that I like on the paper, and after drying, this kind of beautiful pattern is formed.

I chose this piece of paper, with bougainvillea and other local plants in Xishuangbanna on it, it is very memorable to bring back to Guangzhou.

Dai brocade can be seen in almost every village of the Dai people. Every household knows how to weave. This kind of brocade machine is relatively simple. There are two connecting rods made of branches on the feet. The patience of the weavers.

The brocade of the Dai people will be decorated with pictures such as peacocks on the brocade, representing their pursuit of a better life. In 2008, Dai brocade was selected into the national intangible cultural heritage list.

Many daily utensils of the Dai family in Xishuangbanna are pottery made by themselves. The clay used for hand-made pottery in the Dai family is mainly selected from the terraces along the Lancang River, which is highly viscous and has excellent plasticity.

Watching the master learn how to make pottery, it can be made into the shape you want, and then engraved with exclusive patterns and characters. After finishing, send it to be fired, and then let them leave the address, let them make it, and express it to you. .

If you can't wait for firing, you can take the clay away after it dries. Like my vase, some plant leaves are added for decoration, which is unique.

Play Tips:

Although Manzhang Village is not big, it is quite primitive, and it is very close to the Wild Elephant Valley. You can connect these two attractions and get it done in one day.
Manzhang Village experience traditional handicrafts. There are many restaurants in the village, all of which are Dai delicacies. The price is not expensive, and a grilled fish is only 25 yuan. Some special wild vegetables in Xishuangbanna cost only 15 yuan a plate, which I have never seen before, and the taste is not bad. When serving food, they put banana leaves on the plates, which is very distinctive.

Transportation: We drove here from Jinghong City, and the drive time is 1 hour.

Tickets: There are no tickets for Manzhang Village. Various Dai experience projects in the village are 10 yuan per person, there are free villagers' performances, and there is a bonfire party at night. I like the ancient villages of the Dai people who are small, and Lewan Jun first recommends this place.

Wild Elephant Valley

When traveling to Xishuangbanna, there is a must-see attraction. It is the Wild Elephant Valley, which integrates tropical plant ecology and rare animal protection.

Wild Elephant Valley is a place frequented by Asian wild elephants, so it got its name because wild elephants often come and go. It is also the only place in China where wild Asian elephants can be observed from a safe distance.

According to expert statistics, nearly 300 wild elephants currently live in the primeval forests of Xishuangbanna. Everyone has their own group, usually 5-20 elephants form a family, and each family has its own territory. If the members of the elephant group cross Each other's territory will fight with each other.

Let me first talk about the environment around the Wild Elephant Valley. The warm and humid air from the Indian Ocean meets the cold air from the north and south, which brings abundant precipitation to this area. Coupled with the humid climate, this makes the tropical rainforest here Abnormally dense, with a wide variety of plant species. It also results in a particularly large production of tropical fruits here, so this is the natural habitat of this rare animal, such as macaques and wild elephants.

Before the elephant hunting tour in the Wild Elephant Valley, many sculptures of elephants were seen on the streets of the city. Who said this is the hometown of Asian elephants.

On the way to the Wild Elephant Valley, there are signs along the way with a reminder that this is the Wild Elephant Passage, please do not honk your horn.

Elephants in the Wild Elephant Valley live in the reserve.

But wild elephants also have their own migratory passages, like the elephants in the Mengla Reserve, which often come and go in and out of the virgin forest between China and Laos.

There are three ways to see wild elephants. There is an elephant classroom near the south gate of the scenic spot, and there are free elephant performances to watch. You can also take part in the elephant herding trip, that is, the elephant mother takes the baby elephant to the forest to find food, and we walk with the elephant mother and child. Because it takes luck to see wild elephants on the plank road, herding elephants is a good experience project. You can interact with everyone at close range, take pictures and so on.

There is also riding an elephant, this project is not recommended by Lewan Jun!

Elephant is a vegetarian. He likes to eat some fruits and vegetables, such as watermelon, banana, dragon fruit, coconut, carrot, papaya and apple. The picture above is a fruit basket ready to be fed to elephants.

Wild Elephant Valley also has many such handicrafts of small wooden elephants, which are very realistic!

To watch wild elephants, you need to go to the elephant viewing plank road. The reserve will put salt on the stream below the plank road to attract groups of wild elephants to drink water and lick salt, increasing the chance of seeing wild elephants.

There are two phases of the observation stack, and the observation deck in the second phase is the easiest to see elephants. The most labor-saving way is to take the tropical rainforest sightseeing cableway to the observatory.

The cable car passes through the forest along the way, and you can see the panoramic view of the tropical rainforest of the Wild Elephant Valley.

The picture shows the village of Guanxiang

Walking to the viewing plank road, you will first pass through the orchid garden, where you can see many rare orchid species.

High-altitude observation plank road
The high-altitude observation plank road is 2280 meters long, of which the first phase is 920 meters and the second phase is 1360 meters. The environmental protection tourism concept of the plank road is very leading. It is built in the tropical rain forest to realize "people walk in the air and elephants swim on the ground". Tourists can safely observe wild Asian elephants and their living environment without disturbing the life of Asian elephants. Known as "the bridge between human and Asian elephants".

Macaques in the Wild Elephant Valley.

living in the bamboo forest

Standing on the plank road, you can jump far away into the primitive forest ecological community with layers of distinct peaks.

The tropical rain forest is lush and vines are intertwined, and various plants grow happily here.

There are many wild fruits on the tree, and the tree is full of flowers.

Climbing plants are everywhere. In order to survive, these plants entangle and kill each other. This is the famous law of the jungle. In order to survive, one must either survive or die, and the same is true for plants.

The two big trees in the distance are completely occupied by climbing plants, only the top of the tree has some branches and leaves of its own.

Xishuangbanna Wild Elephant Valley has about 80 wild Asian elephants living here all year round, belonging to more than 10 families. At the entrance of the park, there are photo introductions of these 10 elephant herd families.

I also saw a lot of wild birds. This is also the favorite shelter for northern migratory birds. The natural environment is good.

Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden, Chinese Academy of Sciences

Our last day's itinerary is the Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, which is also a must-see popular attraction on all major platforms.
The plant species in the botanical garden are very rich, and there are more than 13,000 kinds of living plants alone. The Botanical Garden is divided into east and west districts, but due to time constraints, I only played in the west district.

According to the classification of plants, it is divided into 38 plant divisions, such as the aquatic botanical garden, the shade botanical garden, the palm garden, the banyan tree garden, the museum, the exotic flower garden, the hundred garden, and the vine garden. I think the most beautiful one is the aquatic botanical garden. There are Wang Lian in it. A child can stand on it without sinking. It is very magical.

The botanical garden in the eastern district will be more primitive and more like a tropical rainforest. It is said that Xishuangbanna is the only oasis at 21 degrees north latitude on the earth, and it is also the only area in my country that is recognized by the world as having the most beautiful tropical rainforest. The entire primitive tropical rainforest covers an area of about 250 hectares.

Taking a battery car is the most convenient and fast way to check in. The first stop of the tour route is the aquatic plants. The leaves in the picture below are all water lilies.

Together with the water lilies, there are also pink lotus flowers.

metasequoia tree

There are many names for aquatic plants, such as "eat inside and outside", they are all named according to the shape of the plants.

And the most common palm tree in the tropics.

The weather was also good that day, with blue sky and white clouds, so it was good to take pictures.

The boardwalk below is a paid attraction, and an additional 10 yuan is required to take pictures. I saw a lot of internet celebrities checking in inside.

There are many peacocks stocking next to the aquatic botanical garden, and you can observe them up close.

The peacock's feathers are bright and beautiful, and it has the reputation of the phoenix of a hundred birds. This male peacock has an emerald green head, a blue-green and pointed crest, and a particularly long tail covert.

Peacocks are not afraid of people. When they see you, they will run over and beg for food from you.

The green plant that grows here is called Dong Zong: But among plants, he is quite short-lived, generally only 40-60 years old. Flowers only bloom once in a lifetime, and after flowering and fruiting, a lifetime is over.

The battery car has a boarding point, and you can take the car by showing the ticket. Only drive when the car is full.

There are also hot air balloons in the botanical garden that can take off vertically. Overlooking this tropical rainforest at high altitude, the view will be very good.

Dragon Blood Tree: The name is really domineering. It is said that it can live for six to eight thousand years. In Hainan, it is called the longevity tree.

This is the dragon blood tree planted by Professor Cai Xitao, the first dean of Xishuangbanna Botanical Garden. The trunk is short and thick, the leaves are green, and the branches are very short and thick.

Cai Xitao, the founder of the Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, came to Yunnan in the 1930s and built the botanical garden by himself. He also planted rubber trees in Xishuangbanna one day, which had an impact on the local economy.

Plant strangulation, this is the most common phenomenon in tropical forests, because in the rainforest, sunlight is what plants want to grab. After these banyan trees germinate, they will climb to other plants, and then parasitize on the trees, hug them, and slowly If it does, the host will be strangled to death. Finally, the banyan tree will become a tall tree.

The botanical garden has a large area, which is very suitable for bringing children to popular science. In the end, we still invite a tour guide, but we can’t understand many plants by ourselves, and then remember to wear long trousers and bring mosquitoes to avoid water, because even in winter, here There are also many mosquitoes.
