The main destinations of this trip are Taiyuan and Jinzhong, Shanxi, with scenic spots and historic sites, mountains and rivers, local customs, and special delicacies. This trip is worthwhile.

Travel strategy

Travel method: This time the travel method is direct flight + rent a car and drive by yourself. This is the second time to travel in this way. The last time was to Guilin. It is convenient and comfortable. You can walk as you like, and you are free, especially this year's hot weather, which greatly reduces the journey. Hard.

Accommodation and food: During this trip, we stayed in Pingyao Ancient City and Wang Family Courtyard for two nights each. They were both good, inexpensive and economical. Stay in Pingyao Yijintang Inn in the ancient city of Pingyao. In the ancient city, there are characteristic Shanxi houses. If you drive by yourself, the boss will arrange the nearest parking lot. Our plane was late and we arrived in the early morning. The boss personally came to arrange the parking lot and guide us to check in. Shanxi noodles are the main food, including dandan noodles, knife-cut noodles, oil-splashed noodles, as well as castor noodles, mixed noodles, and fried noodles. You can pay for whatever you like.

The Wang Family Courtyard lives in the Lingshi Yuesheng Inn. The house is remodeled. The room is spacious, clean and hygienic. It is about 300 meters away from the Wang Family Courtyard. Contact the boss, it is best to let him pick it up.

Tourist attractions: Pingyao Ancient City-Hukou Waterfall-Mianshan Scenic Area-Wang Family Courtyard-Jinci Scenic Area. Here we recommend the large-scale indoor sitcom "See Pingyao Again" in the ancient city of Pingyao. It is a must-see when visiting the ancient city.

D1: Depart on the evening of Wednesday, August 3rd, from Nanjing Baokou Airport to Taiyuan Wusu Airport (20:00-22:05). Rent a car at the airport to go to the ancient city of Pingyao, the journey takes 1 hour and 30 minutes, and check into the ancient city inn around 23:30 in the evening. 

D2: On Thursday, August 4th, visit the ancient city of Pingyao all day, and "see Pingyao again" in the evening, visit the night view of the ancient city, and live in the ancient city of Pingyao. 

D3: On Friday, August 5th, visit Hukou Waterfall. Depart from Pingyao Ancient City for Hukou Waterfall. The journey takes 3.5 hours and stay near the Wang Family Courtyard. 

D4: On Saturday, August 6, visit the Mianshan Scenic Area and the Wang Family Courtyard. The Mianshan Scenic Area is close to the Wang Family Courtyard, and stay near the Wang Family Courtyard at night.

D5: On Sunday, August 7th, go to Taiyuan in the morning. The journey takes 1.5 hours, visit Jinci Temple or Shanxi Museum, and end the trip from Taiyuan Wusu Airport to Nanjing Baokou Airport in the evening (17:30-19:40).

Ancient City of Pingyao, "See Pingyao Again"

The Pingyao Ancient City Pass includes 22 small scenic spots. In fact, there are only 4 or 5 of them to see, such as city towers, ticket numbers, escort bureaus, and county government offices. Cars cannot enter the ancient city. You can finish the tour in one morning, and you can take a stroll if you have time. "Encounter Pingyao" is purchased separately and in advance. This is the best scenic spot sitcom I have ever seen. No spoilers, it is a must-see. There are five shows a day during the summer peak season. The one we watched at 7 p.m. was a bit crowded, and the morning show might be less crowded.

Hukou Waterfall

Hukou Waterfall, a national scenic spot, a national AAAA-level tourist attraction, and a national geological park. It is adjacent to Hukou Town, Jixian County, Linfen City, Shanxi Province in the east, and Hukou Township, Yichuan County, Yan'an City, Shaanxi Province in the west. It is a tourist attraction shared by the two provinces. Hukou Waterfall is the second largest waterfall in China and the largest yellow waterfall in the world.

We visited Shanxi, Hukou Town, Jixian County, Linfen City, 280 kilometers from Pingyao, 3 and a half hours, and the whole journey was high-speed. On the return trip, go directly to the Wang Family Courtyard to check in, and the distance is about 230 kilometers.

It is said that you will not regret it for a lifetime, but you will regret it even more if you go, and you will not give up if you don’t go to the Yellow River. The unique geological features, immersive and magnificent, are still worth a visit.

Mianshan Scenic Area

Mianshan tickets are 110, tickets are 50, and maps are 5 yuan. There are a lot of Jingjiao buses in the peak season, and they depart in circles. The scenic spot is very large, and it takes about 30 minutes to drive from the visitor center to Shuitaogou, the last scenic spot.

In order to avoid getting together, the guide reviews all recommend to sit directly to the last stop, Shuitaogou, and play from back to front. Tourists all go down from Shuitaogou, so there will be more people. The deepest part of Shuilian Cave is about 4 kilometers away, and it doesn’t feel crowded while walking and playing. The temperature of Shuitaogou is much lower than the outside, so it is a good place to escape the heat.

 Mianshan is bounded by Yunfeng Temple. The front part is dominated by temple cultural landscapes, and the rear part is dominated by natural landscapes. I only have one day, and actually played for half a day, and went back to the inn to rest in the afternoon. Mainly visit Shuitaogou, Yunfeng Temple (Baofu Rock), Yuanguan Zigzag Plank Road, Zigzag plank road behind Yunfeng Temple (Baofu Rock), Yuanguan Tianqiao, Daluo Palace, etc. Qixian Valley is also good. The beauty lies in the danger of using both hands and feet. I didn't go to Shuitaogou when I was tired from walking.

Wang Family Courtyard

The Wang Family Courtyard is located in Jingsheng Town, a famous historical and cultural town in China, 12 kilometers east of Lingshi County, Shanxi Province. It is 35 kilometers away from the ancient city of Pingyao, a world cultural heritage, and 4 kilometers away from Mianshan Mountain in Jiexiu.

The Wang Family Courtyard was built by the Jingsheng Wang family through the Ming and Qing dynasties for more than 300 years, including a street with five lanes and six castles, with a total area of ​​250,000 square meters, and it is an architectural art museum with traditional cultural characteristics. . It is a national key cultural relic protection unit and a 4A-level scenic spot.

The yard is very large and well preserved. You must ask a tour guide, otherwise you will get lost.

Jinci Scenic Area

Jinci Scenic Area includes Jinci Park and Jinci Museum. Jinci Park does not require tickets, and Jinci Museum collects tickets. When you go there, you don’t have a guide, so you don’t enter the museum.

Jinci Temple, located in Jinci Town, Jinyuan District, Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province, was built to commemorate Tang Shuyu, the founding prince of the Jin Kingdom (later posthumously named the King of Jin) and his mother Jianghou. It is the earliest surviving royal garden in China and is the ancestral hall of the state of Jin. There are dozens of ancient buildings in the temple, which have the characteristics of traditional Chinese culture.
