Shuanghu Special Area is located in the north of Tibet and the northwest of Nagqu. Shuanghu is the free translation of "two lakes" in Tibetan. The predecessor of the Shuanghu Special Zone was the Shuanghu Office, which was a newly built administrative area in 1976 for the development of the "no man's land" in northern Tibet. This is a county-level special area with a vast territory and extremely scattered residences. The Shuanghu Special Area belongs to Nyima County. To the north is the Qiangtang National Nature Reserve, and about 80 kilometers to the north is the Puuogangri Glacier. This area is located in the Qiangtang Plateau Lake Basin. The mountains in the territory are gentle and the grasslands are open. The terrain is high in the north and low in the south, mostly dry and cold and semi-desert pastures.
