Guguan Hot Spring

Guguan can be roughly divided into three periods in the past; in the early days, it was a place where the Atayal aborigines of Taiwan lived. In the 40th year of the Japanese occupation era, the local aborigines discovered hot springs, and the state government built a public park here. The bathhouse, because the hot springs were discovered during the Meiji period, was called Meiji hot springs by the Japanese at that time. Later, the national government withdrew to Taiwan and built a east-west highway, Zhongheng, which drove local tourism, so it became more and more famous.

Guguan Hot Spring is located in the Snow Mountains and Dajia River. The quality of the hot spring is carbonic acid spring, containing carbides and salt, and you can smell a strong hot spring smell.

Guling Temple

Diagonally in front of the hotel where we stayed, next to the Jingguang Villa, there is a small Guling Temple. The Guling Temple was built in the 25th year of the Showa era, more than a hundred years ago. The temple has two floors. The first floor should be the office, and the stairs on both sides can go up to the second floor. The second floor is the place where the main worship is dedicated to the stone statue of Guanyin Bodhisattva who traveled from Japan at that time. On both sides of the second floor, there are small steps wide enough for one person to climb up to the top floor. On the top floor is Yuelao, and there is a white Guanyin statue about 3 to 4 stories high, with soft and kind carvings.

42 Years Hot Spring Hotel

We chose to stay at the Meiji Hot Spring Hotel this time. This hotel is located in the hot spring alley. It was built in the 16th year of the Republic of China and built in 1965. It is an old hotel with high quality.

On the left side of the hotel, there is a Japanese-style alley with stone steps. On the right side of the steps, there is a whole row of Japanese lanterns with the name of the hotel, and on the left side, there are blessing cards. There is a statue of Avalokitesvara on the stepped platform, as well as a big clock and a wishing pool. Visitors can throw a coin to make a wish and ring the bell (the time for ringing the bell is limited from 10 am to 10 pm), or they can buy it at the counter Prayer card with wishes written down. Going down the stairs is the Meiji Snack Restaurant, but it was not open at the time.

Go to the end of the stairs, the hotel and the hot spring street look across the Dajia River. In front of it is the Guguan Suspension Bridge. Walking to the other side leads to the street. It is very convenient, and you can cut watermelon directly from the suspension bridge.

Osmanthus Alley

At the other end of the suspension bridge is the Guguan Hotel. There is a large open space in front of the hotel for the parking lot, and there are pavilions and shops covered with flowers on the side. Walking up the small slope of the hotel is Osmanthus Alley. Osmanthus Alley really lives up to its name. The whole path goes up along the trend and is not long, but the sides are full of osmanthus, and the fragrance of flowers makes people feel happy.

The second business travel dormitory of Guguan Branch of Dajiaxi Power Plant

Soon after going up, the lower right fork is the second business travel dormitory of the Guguan Branch of Dajiaxi Power Plant, which sells popsicles (unfortunately, it is not open).

take the trail

In front is the Guguan Hot Spring Park. There is a foot bathing pool below. Next to it is the Hot Spring Cultural Center (Visitor Center). The path next to the cultural center is the Yulai Trail (the trail extends to the hotel where we live. Head), the trail is about 1,300 meters long. It crosses Dajia River, crosses the entire mountain, and exits from Wenquan Street. Those who like to climb mountains and want to see thousand-year-old five-leaf pines but have not stayed at the Shenmu Valley Hotel can take a walk.

East-West Crossing Highway - Central Crossing

Across the road is the Guguan Hot Spring Plaza, which also has a foot bath.

Further forward is the place where the street stores are relatively dense. There are convenience stores, dry goods, and many mountain products and sturgeon arowana restaurants. Ahead there is a landmark that crosses the road from east to west, many tourists will rush to take pictures here, and we can't help but ask for one.

bring the suspension bridge

After walking around the street, drinking a cup of coffee and resting for a while, we walked back to the hot spring park. In a corner of the park, there was a coffee shop with soft music playing in it.

hot spring park

We continued to walk to the foot bathing pool in the park. It seems that no matter where we go, there are always many tourists soaking their feet. Before soaking your feet, remember to wash your feet before going into the water. There are 3 pools in the foot bath, one pool has a water temperature of 27 degrees, and the other two pools have a water temperature of about 30 degrees. There are hot spring fish in it. Mothers-in-law, mothers, and uncles laugh when they are bitten by fish, especially the more they are surrounded by fish, the more proud they will be. Then they ridiculed each other for doing too many bad things and doing too many bad things, and we, who were listening to their bickering, were also amused. But to be honest, I was terrified, but for the sake of experience (I never wanted to try it before, this is the first time), I had to hold back, but as soon as the fish touched my toes, my whole legs felt like an electric shock It bounced, unbearably itchy, trembling. Fortunately, the fish didn't seem to like me very much, and they swam away without looking back when they touched me, which made me breathe a sigh of relief. After soaking in the hot spring fish, I also stopped by the cultural center for a walk. There are introductions to hot springs around the world, some history of Guguan, and interactive science for children. In addition, there is anti-mosquito liquid at the entrance of the cultural center to prevent small black mosquitoes from biting. intimate.

At this time, the sky was slowly getting dark, and we went back along the route we had just come. When we walked to the Guguan Hotel Plaza, a group of people had set up 2 or 3 round tables, roasting suckling pig and making noise. The outdoor bathing pool of the hotel was also full of noises, and it suddenly became lively at night. The alleys of the Meiji Hotel were all lit up, brightly lit, and many people took pictures and made wishes in the alleys, which was so lively.

Hotel hot spring

Meiji Hotel provides one meal and two berths. The lobby, restaurant, and outdoor bathing pool are all on the R floor. Our room is on the 5th floor of the lower floor. While waiting for dinner, we first go to the outdoor bathing pool. Swimming suits are required in the bathing pool. There are also sales in the lobby without swimsuits, but they are not cheap. The hot spring pool is divided into three pools according to the temperature. There are water column and SPA in the pool. In addition, there is a hot spring fish pool, steam room and foot bathing pool. Those who want to soak their feet can also choose to buy decoction from the counter. Next to the hot spring pool, there is also a plan. The seating area is available for chatting and resting.

The restaurant enters through an entrance in the hall and then goes down. The restaurant is not big, so the dinner time is divided into three batches, namely 5:30, 6:30 and 7:30. Remember to eat on time according to the time on the meal coupon . The dinner is a buffet style. The dishes are Chinese dishes, but there are quite a few styles, and they are also full. Although there are a lot of people dining, don’t worry, the waiter will replenish the goods from time to time, and the portion prepared is definitely enough for you of.

After the meal, we went to the convenience store of the hotel to have a look. There were quite a lot of things for sale. In addition to drinks, biscuits and instant noodles, there were also skin care products, children’s toys, chess, Taipower popsicles, etc., but the prices were slightly more expensive than outside. Some, but if you want to find a nearby one for convenience, that's all right.

We went back to the room after shopping. Although it is an old hotel, the room is very spacious. It was beyond my expectation. The bathroom and bathtub are not small. They are triangular bathtubs, and there is a large window that can be seen from the Dajia River. River view, but because there are still people on the street on the other side, it is recommended not to open the entire curtain when taking a bath. Turning on the faucet, a strong hot spring smell wafts out, but I personally feel that only the hot spring smell is necessary to feel the hot spring. We just watched TV and soaked in the soup, enjoying the leisure.

The breakfast part is also self-service, and it is still mainly Chinese style, mainly including porridge, side dishes, steamed buns, toast...etc. After breakfast, take a short break. Of course, we must seize the opportunity to take another dip in the hot spring. The hot spring at night is full of atmosphere, and the hot sun shines in during the day. The gurgling water by the stream has a special flavor.

Beth Cold Popsicles

On the way to and from Guguan, you can go to the Dajiaxi Power Plant in Baileng Town to eat a Bailen popsicle. The popsicles here are produced by the ice production department of the power plant employee consumption cooperative. The popsicles are very cheap, and a piece is only 12 yuan. , There are also many choices of flavors. The honey five-leaf pine flavor is a must-eat, which is a unique taste here. Because of the addition of honey, it will not have a strong grassy taste, but a light grassy fragrance. It is very special, you can try it Take a look, many tourists are carrying big boxes, it is really a must-eat food when you come to Guguan. Popsicle business hours are from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, until 6:00 pm in summer, and closed from December to February in winter. On the left of the sales department is a lounge converted from a dormitory. There is a seating area where you can eat ice and rest, and there is also a breastfeeding room, which is very convenient. When you come to Guguan, you must try this unique popsicle!

Although the crowds in Guguan are not as prosperous as before, the quality of the hot springs is still very good. Those who like to soak in hot springs can take a slow-living hot spring trip and experience the famous Meiji Hot Springs.
