As we are getting older, we are very fortunate to have such a good travel opportunity, such a good physical condition, and such a strong will and perseverance. We trekked for 39 days and traveled 12,900 kilometers. D1—D3 June 4th—June 6th Shantou—Pingle—Zunyi—Luzhou (780+690+290 total 1760 kilometers)
On the morning of the 4th, starting from Shantou, Guangdong, started a self-driving tour of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau that lasted for more than a month.
In the first few days of a long-distance trip, you are usually on the road every day. A total of 1,760 kilometers in 3 days were all high-speed, the road conditions were good, and the traffic flow on most road sections was not heavy. In addition, the weather was fine, and it felt smooth to drive the car. It's just that there are many tunnels from Pingle to Zunyi, and many curves from Zunyi to Luzhou. The speed limit is severe, which affects the average driving speed.
Passing by Zunyi, the Zunyi Conference site is so famous, so stop by to have a look, and you can get tickets at the hotel. After inquiring, it was inconvenient to park there, so it was better to take a taxi there, visited for an hour, and then rushed to Luzhou. In Luzhou, I visited the Luzhou Laojiao National Treasure Cellar Pool. This place is now turned into a large-scale scenic spot, the entrance fee is 50 yuan (half price discount for the elderly over 60 years old), and there is a free parking lot at the entrance. Inside, there are guides leading a team to explain, watching the brewing process of Luzhou Daqu, and tasting fine wine. The whole scenic spot is filled with a strong aroma of wine.

I stayed at the Vienna Hotel (Pingle Bus Station Branch) on the 4th, just off the highway. The hotel is brand new, the rooms are tidy, and the parking is convenient. It is worth recommending. The famous Fangzhou Hotel in Zunyi is well-equipped in all aspects; the Weiyi Hotel in Luzhou is very distinctive. The receptionist is very friendly and the breakfast is superb. The disadvantage is that the room is a bit small and the parking is not very convenient.

Depart from Luzhou in the morning and drive all the way to Luding at high speed. After passing the newly opened 13.4-kilometer-long Erlangshan Tunnel, because the highway to Kangding in front has not yet been completed (it is said that it will be open to traffic by the end of this year), I got off the highway and started to take National Highway 318. The 60-kilometer journey from Luding to Kangding has many uphill and downhill curves, especially the large number of large trucks. "One vehicle blocks the road, and ten thousand vehicles cannot drive", which seriously affects the driving speed, and the road is only 60 kilometers. Actually drove for 2 hours. Fortunately, the road conditions are not bad, but the speed is not fast enough.
The altitude of Kangding is more than 2,500 meters, and the temperature is only about 10 degrees. When we set off from Luzhou in the morning, the temperature was still over 30 degrees, and we were wearing short-sleeved clothes. When we arrived in Kangding, we were about to change into winter clothes.
The hotel I stayed in today is in Kangding New City. It is inconvenient to park when passing through Kangding City, so let’s take a look around by car and go around two or three times. It gives the impression that the urban area has been remodeled well, with hotels and restaurants everywhere, and it looks like it is thriving. After arriving at the hotel and settling in, there was still some time to visit the nearby Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture Museum. Tickets are free, but the time is a bit late, people are about to get off work, so they just took a quick look and left.

Stay overnight at Segedimi Hotel in Kangding, in the Alpine-style town of Xincheng, Kangding County. The hotel is new, and the proprietress is super enthusiastic. She personally helps to order dinner. It suits the taste. It is delicious and not expensive. I like it. It is a pity that the room is small and there is no elevator. It is a bit hard to carry luggage upstairs at a slightly higher altitude. The altitude here is 2560 meters. From today onwards, we have begun to enter the high-altitude areas in western Sichuan (the edge of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau).

Kangding to Mugecuo (also known as Kangding Love Song Scenic Area) is only more than 20 kilometers away. The road to the scenic spot is not wide but easy to walk. In the morning, I specially arranged half a day to go to this fairly famous scenic spot. It may be because most of the time is cloudy, the scenery feels average. When the sun shines occasionally, the landscape is relatively better.

In the afternoon, I went directly from Mugecuo to Xinduqiao for 95 kilometers, and walked for about two hours. This section of the Sichuan-Tibet line of National Highway 318 is in good condition, but there are really a lot of vehicles coming and going. In addition to the large trucks, there are also many self-driving tours and chartered cars of various brands and models from all over the country.
During this period, I came to the first pass of Kangba, Zheduo Mountain at an altitude of 4962 meters, where National Highway 318 passes through a pass of 4298 meters. This is the first challenging mountain with an altitude of more than 4000 that needs to be crossed on the Sichuan-Tibet line. The parking lot of the Yakou Observation Deck is well built, and the fee is 10 yuan. There are many people parking and enjoying the scenery.

After crossing the pass of Zheduo Mountain and going all the way down, we arrived at today's destination——Xindu Bridge. It was still early, and I drove around the town and outside the town for dozens of kilometers. Unfortunately, it didn't make people feel the taste of the so-called "photographer's paradise". The season is wrong, and the scenery is too different.
It is very convenient to stay at Xinduqiao Meiyu Dajiu, which is next to National Highway 318. This is an upgraded version of the farmhouse, the room is spacious, the parking is convenient, and the building with only 3 floors is equipped with an elevator, which is great!
The altitude here has risen to 3630 meters, and it was even higher in Mugecuo, which was about 3800 meters. Fortunately, a few days before we set off from our hometown, we started to take "Nuodikang Capsules" (the main ingredient is rhodiola rosea), and we often drink water soaked with American ginseng every day, and now everything feels normal.
D6 June 9 Xinduqiao (Kangding) - Yajiang - Litang - Batang (65+135+170 total 370 kilometers)
Leaving Xinduqiao at 8:00 am, the car did not drive far to arrive at the Gaoersi Mountain Tunnel, which was just opened to traffic. The Gaoersi Mountain Pass is 4412 meters above sea level. This place, which is considered to be one of the best places to view the Daxue Mountain, has been "eliminated" (the previous Jianziwan Mountain Tunnel is also under construction, and it will not be long before the Jianziwan Pass will be "eliminated" "Lose). Going forward, you will come to the viewing platform at the pass of Jianziwan Mountain (4695 meters above sea level), from which you can overlook the 18th bend of Tianlu. Looking down at the Eighteenth Bend of Tianlu from a high position, the scene is still very spectacular and shocking. Here you can also overlook the "King of Shu Mountains" - Gongga Mountain with an altitude of 7,556 meters. Unfortunately, the clouds were too thick to see clearly at that time. Not far ahead, there is a place called "Xiong Zongka", which is 4,281 meters above sea level. It also has a large-scale viewing platform, which is convenient for everyone to park and enjoy the beautiful scenery on the mountain. After passing Kazila Mountain at an altitude of 4,718 meters Pass, the viewing platform here is connected to a large alpine meadow, with green grass and wild flowers everywhere. Because the altitude here is high, the clouds in the sky are changeable, the blue sky and white clouds set off against the green meadow, the scenery is particularly spectacular. After walking around the city for a while, we went straight to the representative West Gate to take pictures. At this time, the weather began to turn bad, dark clouds overwhelmed the top, and then it began to rain. There is no way to stop at the lake and enjoy it.

D7 June 10 Batang - Mangkang - Zuogong (105+160 total 265 kilometers)
Starting from Batang in the morning, it doesn't take long to arrive at the Jinsha River and start entering Tibet. Car, I just passed the Jinsha River Bridge; Road, I will give you an immediate warning! About 80 kilometers of bad roads are waiting for you. Due to landslides and road repairs, many road sections have become one-way streets, and some have to take sidewalks; the road surface is potholed, rough, and dilapidated. It took a total of 4 hours to go through this section. Fortunately, the road conditions from Mangkang to Zuogong are relatively better, but there are many slopes, steep turns and speed limits, etc. Driving a car is still very hard, and the average speed is not as fast as there.

Along the way, we saw the scenery of the Three Rivers (Jinsha River, Lancang River, and Nujiang River), Zongbala Mountain Pass (4150 meters above sea level), and Lawu Mountain Pass (4376 meters above sea level). When we arrived at the highest mountain pass on the Sichuan-Tibet line and passed through the first mountain with an altitude of more than 5,000 meters——Dongda Mountain Pass (5,130 meters above sea level), despite the bad weather, we stopped to take pictures at the landmark monument. In addition, Bajue Mountain, which is nearly 4,000 meters above sea level, has now built a tunnel, so there is no need to climb the mountain pass when walking through the tunnel.

It is also National Highway 318, and there are still some differences in the road conditions between the Tibet border and the Sichuan border. There are many road sections where climbing, descending, and sharp turns are the norm, while landslides, road repairs, and traffic jams often occur. Under normal circumstances, the average speed is only about 40 kilometers per hour, and it is not easy to exceed 50 kilometers per hour. Therefore, it is necessary to take into account the itinerary, the daily schedule.
After leaving Sichuan and entering Tibet, various inspections followed. After passing through almost every county, a routine inspection is required to check the registration ID card, driver's license and vehicle driving license. In some places, the trunk is even opened for inspection. Every gas station is no exception. In addition to registering the above-mentioned 3 certificates, some passengers have to get off the car and the driver has to take pictures. Therefore, if you drive to Tibet by yourself, you must have an ID card, a driver's license, and a vehicle license. Otherwise, you will be unable to move an inch.
Stay overnight at Zuogong Yuexi Resort Hotel, in the new district of Wanda Town, Zuogong County. A 12-storey hotel that just opened in March this year, the management service is good, and it feels like a quasi-4-star hotel. There is such a high-standard and high-standard hotel in such a place, which is enough to show the current prosperity of the tourism market. The altitude here is 3800 meters.

Today along the way, we pass through Bangda Grassland, Yela Mountain Pass (4658 meters above sea level), Nujiang 72 Turn (also known as Sichuan-Tibet 99 Bends), Nujiang Grand Canyon and Anjiula Mountain Pass at an altitude of 4475 meters. Among them, the more distinctive ones are the 72 turns of the Nujiang River and the Nujiang Grand Canyon. In fact, if measured according to today's vision and conditions, its "risk" is not dangerous. The main reason is that the roads are now well repaired, and the performance and power of modern cars are much better than before, so now I don’t feel any special “danger” when driving a car through such a road section.

After passing through the Nujiang Tunnel in the afternoon, the car walked along the Nujiang Grand Canyon for a long time. Although some sections of the road seemed a bit dangerous, the overall road conditions were still very good. The mountain road is curved and the speed limit is severe, with an average speed of about 40 kilometers per hour. Arrive at the accommodation at Ranwu Lake at 4 o'clock. Taking advantage of the good weather, I hurried to the lake near the residence to enjoy the scenery and take pictures.

The highest altitude here is 3960 meters. The purpose of staying here for two consecutive nights is to have a good rest in a good environment.

Today's itinerary is relatively leisurely. In the morning, I went to visit the ancient glacier. In fact, this is a tasteless scenic spot, because there is nothing to see at all. The 30 yuan ticket is not very expensive (there is no discount), but the car is not allowed to drive in, and it costs 50 yuan per person to enter by horse. However, the villagers holding the horses did not go far and shouted for us to get off the horses. In fact, if we want to get to the ancient village after getting off the horses, we still have to walk a long way. The altitude here is nearly 4,000 meters. It is still a bit tiring to go up. I returned to the viewing platform of the glacier before I reached the ancient village. Now the glacier that can be seen here has melted and there is not much left, plus the weather. The reason for this is general perception. Fortunately, most of the roads from National Highway 318 to Glacier are newly built, and the road conditions are very good. This attraction is a bit tricky and not recommended.

D10 June 13 Ranwu Lake (Basu) - Midui Glacier (Bomi) - Bomi - 52K Forestry Workstation (Medog) - Bomi (30+95+30+30 total 185 kilometers)
Midui Glacier was once rated as one of the six most beautiful glaciers in China by China National Geographic. It is only 10 kilometers away from National Highway 318, which is very convenient for tourists to visit. Due to the low altitude of the ice tongue, ordinary tourists can watch it at close range. From the hotel where I stayed in Ranwu Lake to the Midui Glacier Scenic Area for 30 kilometers, there are many beautiful scenery along the way, and I stopped from time to time to enjoy the scenery and take pictures. After buying tickets at the entrance of the scenic spot, you can drive the car another 6 or 7 kilometers and park it in the parking lot of Midui Village, which is more humane. But after arriving here, there is still a 2.4-kilometer mountain road ahead to reach the glacier viewing platform.
There are 2 ways to choose how to get to the viewing platform: one is horseback riding, which costs 100 yuan per person for a round trip. The advantage is that it saves trouble, time and effort. The downside is that you will be told to go back quickly if you don't stay for a long time at the viewing platform; the second is to walk. The advantage is freedom and unlimited time. The disadvantage is that it will be tiring. The altitude here is 3,800 meters. It is difficult to go up, and there are more than 230 steps to be climbed later, which is indeed a test of physical strength.

You can also slowly enjoy the ancient and simple Midui Village and the pastoral scenery along the way. It takes 1 hour to walk; the return journey is downhill and it is easier to walk. It takes half an hour to arrive PARKING LOT. Although the weather is not very strong, the glacier seen from the viewing platform is quite spectacular, which makes people feel worthwhile.

To this day, Medog is still called "Plateau Island" by the outside world. When I had the opportunity to go to Bomi, Medog was the place I wanted to go the most. When planning the itinerary at that time, a lot of information I checked on the Internet showed that although the road had been repaired and passed, the existing road sections were still undergoing major repairs, and some road sections were being upgraded, which was very difficult to walk. I had no choice but to give up the idea of going to Medog and take the next best thing. I walked dozens of kilometers along the Zha-Mo Highway to the 52K Forestry Workstation to have a look. During the period, I would pass through the Galongla Tunnel and see the Galongla Snow Mountain.
After arriving in Bomi in the afternoon, not far from the Zhamo Highway from Zhamu Town to Medog, the road surface began to be broken. There was a section of the washboard road that was very bumpy, and a small section of the road was washed away by the falling water on the mountain. The car You have to wade through the water. After passing through the 3,360-meter-long Galongla Tunnel, the fog over there was so thick that it was almost impossible to see 10 meters away. It is said that the road and bridge in front were washed away by mudslides and the road was blocked, so we had to turn around and return to Bomi.

The Huating Hotel where Bomi stayed was very average except for the convenience of parking. The altitude here is relatively low at 2750 meters.
D11 June 14 Bomi - Bomigang Township Nature Reserve (Bomi) - Lulang (Linzhi) (30+160 total 190 kilometers)
Depart from Bomi County early in the morning, first go to the Ganoderma lucidum and spruce forest in Gang Township, which is located in the Bomi Gang Township Nature Reserve and one of the ten most beautiful forests in China. After a few kilometers away from the county seat, we turned into the small road in the scenic spot. The road surface was narrow like a one-way street, but fortunately it was relatively flat. When I was lucky that there was no car coming in front of me, several cars came one after another. It was very difficult to meet the car, and I had to give way to a relatively wider road section. It was raining lightly, and the road surface was a bit slippery. After driving a few times, I didn’t feel very safe. After walking for more than ten or twenty kilometers, I saw what I should see. I hurried back to the county town and took National Highway 318 to Lulang Town.

The 318 National Highway from Bomi to Lulang is smooth and easy to walk. When passing the Tongmai Bridge, many people stopped there to take pictures. After parking the car in the parking lot next to it, I joined in the fun with everyone, watching and taking pictures there. The current Tongmai Bridge is well built, and many tunnels have been built along the adjacent route. In the past, Tongmai Tianxian was a stumbling block on the Sichuan-Tibet line. It often took a lot of time or even a few days to pass, but now it only takes a few minutes to pass. Tianzhu has become a thoroughfare, and the former Tongmai natural danger is gone forever.

It tastes good and the price is not expensive. Living well and eating well today is considered hard work all the way, so reward yourself well. The altitude here is 3285 meters.

Today's itinerary is also very leisurely. The advantage of self-driving travel is that you can arrange your own itinerary, so that there is a combination of tightness and looseness, so that you will not be too tired and hard to drive and play. Depart from the hotel in the morning and continue along National Highway 318. It rains from time to time, the mountains in the distance are shrouded in clouds and mist, and the alpine meadows are full of small flowers, the scenery is beautiful and safe.

Passing through the Lulang Forest Sea along the way, this place has long been surrounded and turned into a paid attraction, isn't it just to look at the forest? When we arrived at the Sejila Mountain Pass at an altitude of 4,728 meters, this is a famous landmark on the Sichuan-Tibet line. Even the symbolic stele here was surrounded and charged. It is conceivable how serious this chaos is. It may be due to the weather. At that time, no one was guarding the door, and everyone came in and out casually. We also followed everyone to the symbolic stele inside to take pictures. At the same time, you can also overlook Nanga Bawa Peak from here.

After getting off the Sejila Mountain Pass, Bayi Town is not far along the Niyang River. Originally, there was also a world cypress king garden attraction, but it was closed at the entrance due to renovations. Arrived at Nyingchi at noon, took a rest at the hotel after lunch, then went for a stroll in Bayi Town, went to Fujian Garden, Guangdong Plaza and other places, and went to the vegetable market. Compared with the first time I came to Tibet and came to Nyingchi 12 years ago, the appearance of the whole city has changed too much. It has become a noisy and busy city, which gives people an ordinary feeling.

The Linzhi Meilin International Hotel, which I stayed in for two nights tonight, is listed as a four-star hotel. Although it is good in all aspects, the room is spacious and the parking is convenient, but the overall situation is still far from the mainland. The altitude here is 2930 meters.
D13 June 16 Nyingchi - Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon Scenic Area (Milin) - Nyingchi (85+85 total 190 kilometers)
Arrange a full day today to visit the Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon scenic spot. According to the guidance of the navigation, I walked a lot of rural roads from the hotel to the scenic spot (it could have been more than 30 kilometers on the Lalin Expressway), passing through many villages, and the speed limit was severe. Along the way, the mountain road is winding, narrow, and has many slopes. Fortunately, the road conditions until the entrance of the scenic spot are very good. It took two hours to walk the 85-kilometer road. It was much faster to go for a section of high speed when returning.
Passing by Yani National Wetland Park, there are parking places, viewing platforms and free visits. Although the weather is bad and the scenery is greatly reduced, many tour groups will come to the free scenic spots, and there are still many tourists.

The Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon ranks first among the ten most beautiful canyons in China, but only part of it is currently open to tourists, so there are not many landscapes you can see in the scenic spot.
