Tuyugou, place name, Uighur language, means "no way, no way".

There are many Uighur place names with the same pronunciation or even the same characters in Xinjiang, but if you search on Baidu and search in Cihai, there is only one place in the world called Tuyugou.

Tuyugou is located in Shanshan County, Turpan City. Starting from Turpan, go east along National Highway 312 or G30 Highway for 46 kilometers, then turn southward for 3 kilometers, and you will enter the most magnificent canyon in the Flaming Mountains——Tuyugou Grand Canyon .

Tuyugou Mazha Village

Tuyugou Mazha Village can be regarded as the largest Islamic holy place in China, and it is "China's wheat plus". The village is not big, but it is famous because of an ancient tomb.

Mazar means "cemetery" in Uighur. According to legend, in the seventh century AD, Ye Mu Naiha, the disciple of Muhammad, the founder of Islam, came to the East to preach. A group of six people and a dog were buried here after being sanctified. This village Named after the saint's tomb, there is an endless stream of Muslims from all over the world who come here every year to worship.

The white-bearded old man enjoying the shade under the ancient mulberry tree, the veiled old woman hurrying past under the kiln, and the Uighur children chasing and frolicking with tourists all make people feel like they are in a paradise.

This small mountain village has witnessed the history of the spread of Western religions to the inland of the Central Plains. The dilapidated buildings in the area are small in scale but complete in various religious styles are an excellent proof.

Tuyugou Thousand Buddha Caves

Tuyugou Thousand Buddha Caves is one of the first batch of autonomous region-level cultural relics protection units announced in January 1957. It is the most important station for the introduction of Buddhism to China and occupies a special position in the history of Xinjiang's religious culture and art.

Among the many Buddhist grotto sites in Xinjiang, the Tuyugou Thousand Buddha Cave Grottoes ranks third in terms of scale. It is notable because it was built earlier than the Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang and there are many early mural sites preserved.

According to the Tang Dynasty document "Xizhou Tujing" unearthed from the Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang, Tuyugou was a fairyland on earth. "In Tuyugou, there are many temples spread out along with the mountains. They lean against dangerous peaks and face clear streams. They are surrounded by green trees. There are dense Buddhist and Buddhist temples, Buddhist music, fireworks, wandering monks gather, and people walk. In the depths of the valley, it is difficult to see the sun and the moon.”

Although the appearance of the ancient Buddhist holy land in Tuyugou no longer has the glory of the past, it still attracts the attention of scholars from all over the world who study Buddhist history and Buddhist art.
