◆Snow is in Yan'an. The famous journalist American Edgar Snow was the first western journalist to cover the Red Zone. In his extensive contact with the Red Army soldiers and the masses, he was called the "Big Nose Red Army".

◆Ningxia Tongxin Grand Mosque. In August 1936, after finishing his interviews with Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai and other CCP leaders in northern Shaanxi, Snow came to Tongxin Yuwangbao (the residence of Tongxin County Government) from Wayaobao in northern Shaanxi, and conducted interviews for a month. The headquarters of the West Route Army is located here. Snow interviewed Peng Dehuai, Xu Haidong and other senior Red Army generals in Tongxin County, and wrote what he saw and heard in the world-famous book "Westward Journey" (English translation is "Red Stars Shine on China").

◆The cover of "Westward Journey" was published with the "Voice of the Anti-Japanese War" taken by himself, and this photo is often used as the cover of subsequent editions and translations.

◆The photo was taken at Yuhaibao, Tongxin County, Ningxia. On October 20, 1936, the West Route Army of the Red Army established the "Hui Autonomous Government of Yuhai County, Shaanxi, Gansu and Ningxia Province" in Tongxin Mosque, Yuhaibao, Tongxin County. The first county-level minority autonomous regime.

◆The Memorial Hall of the Red Army's Western Expedition. According to his recollection, Snow was walking near the south wall of Yuwang Fort in the early morning and saw the buglers practicing, so he took a photo of the Red Army blowing the horn, but he was not very satisfied with the photo. At this moment, Snow saw Xie Liquan who had just put on a new military uniform and was wearing a pistol, and was directing the drill energetically. He immediately asked the translator to say to him excitedly: "Please stand here and blow the horn to the red flag." He purposely used a military flag with the words "Chinese People's Red Army Anti-Japanese Pioneer Army" as the background, and asked Xie Liquan to blow the horn against the rising sun, so this classic photo came into being. Snow named this photo "Voice of the War of Resistance". Xie Liquan, a native of Xingguo, Jiangxi Province, was 19 years old at the time and was the founding major general.

◆Ma Haide and his wife Sophie (formerly named Zhou Suzhen) are in Yan'an. Dr. Haydham (George Haydham) who accompanied Snow was a great internationalist fighter like Bethune, an American who became the first foreigner to become a Chinese citizen in 1950. Because of his experience in Tongxin County, Ningxia, he took a Chinese name - Ma Haide.

◆In 2006, adjacent to the famous Tongxin Mosque, the only memorial hall in China named after the Red Army's Western Expedition - the Red Army's Western Expedition Memorial Hall was built. The sculpture of the Red Army Trumpeter in front of the museum is based on the photo of Snow's "Voice of Anti-Japanese War".

◆Xiao Ke, a senior general of the Red Army's West Route Army, wrote an inscription for the memorial hall "The Red Army's Long March, Shaanxi, Gansu and Ningxia Armies Gather in the Concentric City". (In 1936, the first, second and fourth front armies of the Red Army joined forces in Tongxin City)

◆The other side of the stele is Ma Haide's inscription "One heart and one mind, one heart and one heart".

◆Unfortunately, the memorial hall was closed for a long time at that time.
