Xizhou Town is located in the northern part of Dali City, Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture in Northwest Yunnan Province. The town has hundreds of distinctive Bai ethnic residential buildings in the Ming Dynasty, Qing Dynasty, Republic of China and contemporary periods. From a distance, it looks like a simple and elegant city, more like a huge museum of residential buildings. The unique shape and the almost perfect structure give people a sense of solemnity and vigor but also lightness and ingenuity, simple and elegant but also free and easy texture and aesthetic feeling.

There are no walls around Xizhou ancient town, but there are gates in the east, west, north and south. The most eye-catching one is the Zhengyi Gate in the west, which is also the landmark building of Xizhou Ancient Town. Also known as Kui Pavilion, scholars in the imperial examination era would come here to pray for the title of the gold list. Today, it is said that there are still candidates who are brought by their parents to Kui Pavilion to pray to the Kuixing master before the big exam.

As soon as you enter the ancient town, when you look up, you can see the two trees with branches and leaves that are as leafy as the cover. This is a kind of tree that is rarely seen in northern my country. Because the Bai people believe that the big green tree is a symbol of the prosperity of a village, so it is also called "feng shui tree".

The two ancient trees at the head of Xizhou Village are said to be one yin and one yang tree. One tree germinates and the other loses its leaves. During labor breaks, villagers often take a nap under the sprouting trees.

Then you can see the archway of [Dexinfang], which is the Tajing Primary School in Xizhou. From the archway built by the school and the inspirational school motto written on the wall, it can be seen that the ancient and modern culture of Xizhou Ancient Town has a long history.

On the opposite side is the Ziyun Mountain Temple. The seemingly inconspicuous small temple started in the Ming Dynasty, and the current building was built in the Qing Dynasty.

There is a Ziyun Mountain Temple in Xizhou Town. It is said to be a temple, but it is actually a place where the three religions of Taoism, Buddhism and Confucianism are united. There is a hall inside which also enshrines Emperor Guan.

From the architecture to the statues, this temple is not as solemn as those ancient and famous temples. It is as dilapidated as the houses in the town, and it is full of fireworks

The General Assembly of Xizhou Senior Citizens Association is also here

Stepping on the ancient bluestone slabs, walking through the ancient alleys, to find the history left behind in the mottled light and shadow.

Xizhou Ancient Town has a history of more than a thousand years and is one of the surviving ancient cities in Nanzhao. The unique architectural features of gray walls and white tiles, three squares and one screen wall, four-in-one and five-well sky cast a mysterious veil on this quaint town.

In Xizhou Ancient Town, you can meet many well-preserved deep houses and courtyards. Therefore, if you want to see the Bai people's houses, you should come to Xizhou.

In the Bai folk houses in Xizhou, there are very wonderful flying eaves and brackets, a typical three-drop water gate building system. You can see that when it rains, the raindrops will pass through the first and second eaves, and then drop to the ground. It means a lot of money. There are many exquisite murals and colorful carvings on the entire gate tower, which are very beautiful.

The old houses in Xizhou are set against the sky of the sky, which looks old and new, and any house looks so beautiful when photographed.

Bicycles and mottled old walls in the sun. This place probably condenses the essence of the whole Dali. Mr. Lao She once called Xizhou a "miracle".

Xizhou Sifang Street is located in the center of Xizhou Ancient Town. It is a small square surrounded by many shops. There is a stone square "Civilization Square" erected here. This place was originally called "Timing Square", which was built after several Jinshi came out of the town in the Ming Dynasty. At that time, all the villagers who had achieved fame in the imperial examination could engrave their names on it. He Juren has nearly 100 people. The existence of Wenmingfang reflects the profound cultural background of Xizhou and the importance attached to culture by Xizhou people, which is the historical root of Xizhou's cultural atmosphere.

Nearby is the Yan Family Courtyard. It is a complex of deep houses connected by multiple courtyards. As a national key cultural relics protection unit, the Yan Family Courtyard maintains the architectural form of the Bai people's residential buildings "three squares and one screen wall", "four in five patios", "one hall and two courtyards (six contract springs)", "walking horses and corner buildings" and other typical architectural styles of Bai people's houses.

At another street intersection on the left side of the central square of Xizhou Ancient Town, there is also a memorial archway, engraved with two big characters [Hanlin] on it.

The pace of life here is very slow, and many shops are often closed or open very late.

What kind of stories are hidden in the six doors?

Going out of the city, you will come to the fields, large expanses of green rice fields.

When the breeze blows, the rice seedlings rise and fall like waves, which is pleasing to the eye.

Walking in the pastoral scenery, every step I take, I will step on a rhyme, and every time I look at it, it is a poetic picture.

The large house built in the countryside has a conspicuous yellow exterior wall. There is a famous inn in Xizhou called "Xilinyuan", which is named after "Xizhou" and "Linden".

Mr. Linden, an American who has lived in China for many years, remodeled the Yang Pinxiang Courtyard, a former residence of the Bai people before liberation, and built this inn.

Built in 1948, Yang Pinxiang’s compound is a representative building of the “five blessings and longevity” (two, three squares and one screen wall) architectural form of the Bai people in Xizhou. Among them, the gate tower is the most exquisite in workmanship. One, create a "bright" number.

First enter the yard, which is open for tourists to visit every afternoon.

The architectural design of the entrance hall of the old Xizhou house feels very complicated. The convex and concave eaves and the upturned corners of the eaves also show that it is not a building that ordinary people can afford.

Xizhou Baba is known as one of the delicacies not to be missed

The "famous store" on Sifang Street should be Qingliang Hut, which has been in business in Xizhou since 1982.

Madam Ma’s milk popsicles are still so sweet. There is a reason why the popsicles here can keep the old taste for so many years. The boss Madam Ma said that for so many years, he and his wife, Mr. Shi, have insisted on going to the farmer’s house to buy the fresh milk of the day. After the fresh milk is brought back, it has to be boiled for a long time, and then cooled, and the popsicles produced are up to the standard before they are sold.
