Bisezhai Railway Station is a must-go place in Mengzi City, Yunnan Province, because it is one of the earliest railway stations in modern Chinese history.
After visiting the former site of Mengzi Customs and the Mengzi Branch of Southwest Associated University in Nanhu Park of Mengzi City during our self-driving tour during the Spring Festival, we drove to Bisezhai. Bisezhai is 11 kilometers away from the urban area and is built on a hillside in Caoba Town.
Because the movie "Youth" was filmed here, it has become a famous local scenic spot, and there are many more tourists. So the road into the village is guarded by the police, and you have to continue to the place with a lot of parking. It is a simple tourist. center. There are a lot of things to buy here, baked tofu and cold salad are the most.
Although I was a little hungry, I didn't stop there. I walked into the railway track of Bisezhai to take pictures first. Bisezhai Railway Station was built in 1909. It was originally a major station on the Yunnan section of the Yunnan-Vietnam Railway. When the French built the Yunnan-Vietnam Railway, it was built along the Red River Valley, leading directly to Haiphong, Vietnam, and to the sea. Goods from Yunnan can be shipped abroad quickly from here. Because the meter-gauge Yunnan-Vietnam Railway and the Cun-gauge Gebishi Railway meet here, and the flow of goods and passengers changes here, it is still a special-grade station. It was very prosperous in those days, and the busiest period was from 1920 to 1970.
Many people have heard of meter-gauge railways, but not many have seen them. There are many meter-gauge railways in Vietnam, so when I took the train from Nanning to Hanoi, I had to change trains when I arrived in Pingxiang. In China, it seems that only Yunnan still has a meter-gauge railway, which is the original Yunnan-Vietnam Railway. When I came to Bisezhai Railway Station, I saw the meter-gauge railway. This meter-gauge railway refers to a narrow-gauge railway with a gauge of 1 meter. The speed is only more than 30 kilometers per hour, which is very slow.
Don't look at the staggered railway tracks at Bisezhai Railway Station, which are so straight and laid on the gravel road, extending to an invisible distance. At that time, when the French built the French Yunnan-Vietnam Railway, they were forced to go to the mountains because of the strong opposition from the gentry and the people in the urban areas along the line, so Bisezhai Railway Station was also achieved. There are office buildings, water towers, dormitories for French employees, train station bars, etc. Many of them have been preserved. Now, Bisezhai Railway Station still retains its original appearance, and the entire station is under the protection of cultural relics.
The blue sky, the yellow French train station, and the black rails, this is the first impression of Mengzi Bisezhai Railway Station. Bisezhai Railway Station is the location of the field hospital in Feng Xiaogang's movie "Youth". This century-old railway station has become popular because of this, and is known as "the most artistic railway station in China". Wearing military uniforms to find the moving youth is something that many tourists like to do. Such a famous movie has also made this place a popular tourist spot. It’s no wonder that after more than 100 years, the station office building, platform, and railroad track ruins of Bisezhai Railway Station are still there. They are still very French-style yellow walls and red tiles. Full of memories immediately come to mind, don’t you?
The railway tracks here are very long, and the railway has been stretched endlessly. Many people may just play on the platform and waiting hall and then leave. In fact, if you go straight ahead, there are old trains standing there for tourists to take pictures. Buildings, including workers' canteens, watchtowers, hotels, headquarters. Walking up will know more about Bisezhai.
