Karamay is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. It is an important petroleum and petrochemical base in the country and a new industrialized city focused on construction in Xinjiang. Karamay is located in the northwest margin of the Junggar Basin, the center of the Eurasian continent—the center of the Pan-Central Asia region. black oil mountain
Karamay means "black oil" in Uighur, and it got its name from the black asphalt hill two kilometers northeast of the urban area - Heiyou Mountain. Oil makes Karamay the most beautiful city in northern Xinjiang.

This black asphalt mountain and its buried oil have been sleeping here for hundreds of millions of years. The hot springs in the valley gushes out all the year round, the water temperature at the outlet is 52°C, and the water contains more than ten kinds of trace elements.
