The ruins of the Alishan Shenmu burned in 3000 years are located next to the Shenmu Station of the small forest train. Red juniper saplings are now planted in place to inherit the spirit that symbolizes the endless life of the Alishan Shenmu.

A giant red cypress tree over 3,000 years old on Alishan was discovered in 1906. The tree has a circumference of 25 meters and a height of 50 meters. It is regarded as the sacred tree of Alishan. In 1914, the Alishan Forest Railway opened to traffic. The towering Alishan Shenmu and the small forest train passing through it are almost the spiritual symbol of Alishan, and it has become a well-known Taiwanese landmark both at home and abroad. It was a pity that it was burned in two lightning strikes in the 1950s and dumped on the railway in 1997. The authorities listened to the opinions of experts and the public, arranged for the sacred tree to be brought down and returned to nature, and red juniper saplings were planted on the spot to inherit the spirit that symbolizes the endless life of the Alishan sacred tree.
