The ancient castle of Eskshaer means "dilapidated ancient city" in the Uighur language. It is located in a steep earth and rock mound of Yadan landform, and it is built against Yadan. From a distance, the castle and Yadan are integrated and cannot be distinguished . Facing south and facing north, the castle is a two-story adobe building with a residual height of 6-8 meters. It was built in the middle and upper part of the Yadan hill more than 5 meters above the ground.

This is a defensive facility that has been repaired in modern times (Qing Dynasty). There are mainly two castles with viewing holes on them. A large number of pottery fragments are scattered on the gravel ground, including coarse and fine sand red pottery, painted pottery, and decorations with horizontal, vertical and triangular patterns, etc. In 1998 and 1999, people robbed the tomb many times, and the mummies were discarded on the ground. The environment here is extremely dry and hot, and there is no drop of water in the ancient riverbed. It is speculated that the ancient castle was in use from the Bronze Age to the Han, Tang, Ming and Qing Dynasties. Everything here is still surrounded by mysteries, waiting for experts, scholars and archaeological enthusiasts to study.

According to local people’s speculation, before the Sha’er Lake in the west of this place (leading from the quicksand to Lop Nur) dried up, there were villages and people here. When the water source moved (the crust changed) and the Sha’er Lake disappeared, the trees and birds became fossils in the wind and sand. , and the people who lived here had to leave their hometowns, and even the remains of their ancestors were removed, so far there are only ruins.
