The season of desert tourism is from June to October every year, and the season of hiking desert exploration is from September to October. Every August and September is the Badain Jaran Desert Cultural Tourism Festival. There are traditional Mongolian sports competitions such as horse racing, camel racing, and dune climbing, as well as wonderful motorcycle and jeep cross-country races, photography, strange stone exhibitions and other activities.

The Badain Jaran Desert was originally free of charge except for some scenic spots (such as Badain Lake), but as more and more tourists come here to experience the charm of the desert, some areas here have gradually begun to charge tourists. Fee-charging attractions include Bataan Lake, Badain Jaran Desert Geological Park, etc.

Badain Lake is a desert lake near the town of Badain Jaran, and it is also one of the few freshwater lakes in the Badain Jaran Desert. Batan Lake has beautiful scenery, like a pearl inlaid in the vast sea of ​​sand, and the locals also call it "jewel lake". The entire scenic area is full of sand hills, with overlapping peaks and ridges. Every tall sand hill has unique scenery.

The Badain Jaran Desert is located in the northwest of Inner Mongolia, and the surrounding area is sparsely populated. It is about an hour's drive from Badain Jaran Town (the seat of the government of Alxa Right Banner), and the transportation is not convenient. Generally, tourists need to arrive at Lanzhou, Jinchang and other places in Gansu Province first, or Alxa Left Banner in Inner Mongolia, and then take a long-distance bus to Badain Jilin Town and Yabulai Town (you can also charter a car if it is convenient). Then set off from the town and start to play in the desert. To visit the Badain Jaran Desert, you can only charter a car or find a local travel agency. Most chartered cars are found in Badain Jaran Town or Yabulai Town.

The driver master will take the tourists into the hinterland of the desert and gallop in the vast sand sea. Looking around in the scenic area, there are endless sand peaks with a relative height of more than 200 meters. The off-road vehicle travels through the sand dunes, just like a small boat wandering in the wind and waves of the sea, going up and down is like a roller coaster-like excitement. Tourists with motion sickness can take motion sickness medicine in advance, or greet the driver in advance.

If you have two days, you can visit some important scenic spots in the desert, Sumin Jilin Temple (Miaohaizi), Bilutusha Mountain (Bilutusha Peak, the highest sand peak in the desert, also called Desert Everest), Badan Lake, etc. For accommodation, you can ask the driver to contact the residents in the desert, the price will be relatively cheaper, and the local residents can provide meals, but it is relatively simple.
