Baideng Mountain is the battlefield of "Siege of Baideng" in history. In the sixth year of Emperor Gaozu of the Western Han Dynasty (201 BC), Han Wangxin rebelled in the Datong area and colluded with the Xiongnu in an attempt to attack Taiyuan. Liu Bang personally led an army of 320,000 to meet the Xiongnu, and chased them all the way to Baideng Mountain in Datong. As a result, he fell into the trap of the Huns and was besieged on Baideng Mountain for seven days and nights. Thanks to the counselor Chen Ping who advised Liu Bang, he sent a lot of money to the Yan family. After accepting the bribe, the Yan family tried his best to persuade Shan Yu to withdraw his troops. Shan Yu heard that the reinforcements of the Han army were coming, and fearing that it would be bad for him, he had no choice but to withdraw from the siege.
At the foot of the mountain, there is a "Han Que-style" stele pavilion. The engraved inscriptions describe in detail the scene of the fierce battle between the two armies in the "Battle of Baideng".
