Baijitan Nature Reserve is located in Lingwu City, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, on the edge of Maowusu Sandy Land. The total area of ​​the reserve is 74,843 hectares, and the main protection objects are desert ecosystems and typical desert wild animal and plant resources.

The reserve is located in the southwest corner of the Ordos platform, bordering on the loess-born hills area in the south, and the landform belongs to the hilly area, which is divided into low hills, gentle slope hills and desert low hills, with an altitude of 1150-1650 meters. The desert vegetation in the area is well preserved, especially the 17,000 hectares of natural desert shrub communities dominated by caragana in the central core area.

There are 306 species of higher plants in 53 families, 170 genera and 115 species of wild animals in 23 orders and 47 families. Among them, there are 22 species of wild animals listed as national key protected wild animals, such as black stork, desert cat, rabbit mantle, goose-throated antelope, and kite; There are 23 species of green-winged duck, white spoonbill and saker falcon under the protection of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Wild Animals.
