Bala is a transliteration of Tibetan, meaning a Tibetan village from Batang. According to legend, a long time ago, a general was tired of living in constant wars all the year round. One day, he dreamed that three goddesses took him to a fairyland-like canyon lined with sacred mountains, where there was no war and no worries. The next day, he told the Buddhist teacher about this beautiful dream, and the Buddhist teacher told him that this was the will of the Snow Mountain God, asking you to find a harmonious and peaceful home. So, the general led his family and his men to walk for ninety-nine and eighty-one days, and ran all over the mountains and rivers of the Kham area in search of the dream paradise. It was late at night when they crossed the Bengbogang Gezong Snow Mountain. People who were exhausted and lacked food and water passed out one by one. When they woke up the next day, they couldn't help being surprised. This place is exactly the ideal home they are looking for, the Gezong (White Fortress) Snow Mountain in their dreams. So they settled down here. Because the general's family is from Batang, they named the place Bala Village, and the snow mountain behind the village is called Balagezong Snow Mountain. For thousands of years, they have worked at sunrise and rested at sunset, and they have lived a life like a "paradise" isolated from the world for generations.
