Baoguo Temple, not far from the gate of Mount Emei, was built in the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty. It is a temple entering the gate of the mountain, and it is also the starting point for most tourists to visit the scenic spot of Mount Emei. The plaque of "Baoguo Temple" on the gate of the temple was made by Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty. This is also the center of Buddhist activities in the mountain.

Baoguo Temple was originally named Huizong Hall, but it was renamed during the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty. The main halls include the Maitreya Hall, the Daxiong Hall, the Seven Buddha Hall and the Puxian Hall, etc., which are built on the hillside, with one layer higher than the other. Now it is the seat of the Buddhist Association of Emeishan City, and many large-scale Buddhist ceremonies are held here.

Entering the mountain gate, the first hall is the Maitreya Hall, where the statue of Maitreya is enshrined. The second hall is the Daxiong Hall, in which the Buddha Lord Sakyamuni is enshrined with a golden body and painted lotus statue.

Going up the stone steps is the Seven Buddha Hall, where the seven Buddhas are enshrined. Under the Palace of the Seven Buddhas stands a 14-storey copper Huayan Pagoda, which was cast during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty. The tower is cast with 4,700 small Buddhas and the full text of the "Huayan Sutra".

The last hall is the Puxian Hall, which is dedicated to Puxian Bodhisattva. Because Mount Emei is the dojo of Samantabhadra Bodhisattva, he was enshrined in a hall behind.
