The Charity Temple Grottoes are located about 3 kilometers southwest of Linyou County, Baoji, 160 kilometers away from Xi'an, and 110 kilometers away from Baoji in the south. The Grottoes of Cichan Temple began to be excavated in the period of Emperor Wen of the Sui Dynasty, and continued to be excavated in the period of Tang Gaozong Li Zhi and Wu Zetian, and continued to expand the temple in the past.

One of the main Buddhas in the Charity Temple was excavated and carved in the Sui Dynasty. The Sui Dynasty existed for a short time, and there were few Buddhist relics left behind. The tall and intact statues of the Sui Imperial Palace Grottoes like the Lord Buddha of Charity Temple are very precious. In the Tang Dynasty, in addition to continuing to use Charity Temple for Buddhist activities, some new temples were built around Jiucheng Palace. The standing Buddhas on the left and right sides of one cave and the standing Buddhas and Bodhisattvas in the other cave were all engraved in the Tang Dynasty. They are tall and exquisite, with smooth lines and kind faces. The "Jing Fu Sutra" inscribed in the Tang Dynasty in another cave is the earliest secular Buddhist scriptures in the country, with a large number of preserved words and relatively complete content. The tiles of Buddha statues unearthed in Charity Temple are also very precious.

There are three major caves and more than 40 statues preserved in the Grottoes of Cichan Temple. The main Buddhas in the north and south caves are both over 4.5 meters high.
