Chengdu Museum (Chengdu China Shadow Puppet Museum) is a public welfare institution affiliated to Chengdu Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Film and Tourism. Founded on September 15, 1958, Chengdu Museum has successively experienced several stages of development including the Preparatory Committee of Chengdu Topography Museum, Chengdu Cultural Relics Management Office, Chengdu Museum and Chengdu Museum. At the end of 2015, the new Chengdu Museum was established with the approval of the Chengdu Municipal Party Committee, and officially opened to the public on September 15, 2016.
The Chengdu Museum is located on the west side of Tianfu Square in the city center. The main building is divided into a south building and a north building: the south building is mainly for office and scientific research areas on the ground, and the underground is an academic lecture hall (multi-function hall); the north building is mainly for exhibition areas, and the first floor It is a hall, a projection hall, and a special exhibition hall. The basement floor is a special exhibition of man and nature. The second to third floors above ground are Huazhongjin Official City—Chengdu History and Culture Exhibition Ancient Chapter. The fourth floor is modern chapters and folk customs. The fifth floor It is an exhibition of Chinese shadow puppetry, with a total exhibition area of nearly 20,000 square meters.
The total number of collections in the Chengdu Museum is nearly 200,000 pieces, forming a relatively complete collection sequence from the Neolithic Age to the Republic of China period. , Taoist paintings, masks, wood carvings, etc., have formed a scale and system in terms of quantity and quality.
