Chengtian Temple Pagoda, located in Chengtian Temple in Xingqing District (Old City) of Yinchuan, is commonly known as "West Tower" by the locals. Chengtian Temple was built in the first year of Xixia Chuisheng (AD 1050). After the death of Li Yuanhao, the founding emperor of Xixia, his son ascended the throne at a young age. , built Chengtian Temple and Chengtian Temple Pagoda. The Chengtian Temple Pagoda is the only ancient pagoda in Ningxia that records the date of its construction. The original pagoda was destroyed in the earthquake, and what is seen today is an ancient building rebuilt in the Qing Dynasty.

The gate of Chengtian Temple opens towards the east, which is different from most of the temples in the Central Plains, which "sit north and face south". This may be related to the worship of the East or the sun by the Xixia people. After entering the gate, the main buildings such as the Hall of Five Buddhas, the Pagoda, the Hall of Wei Tuo, and the Hall of the Reclining Buddha are located on the central axis in the east-west direction. The buildings are connected by small gates and walls, forming a courtyard-style courtyard. , There is a very simple brick carving pendant flower on the small door.

Today in Chengtian Temple, you can still climb the Chengtian Temple Tower, which is more than 60 meters high. The tower door also faces east. When you enter the square tower room, you will see wooden stairs spiraling up. On the eighth, eighth and tenth floors, there are multi-door open windows facing east and west, while on the eleventh floor there are four bright and four dark round windows, where you can look at the old city of Yinchuan through the open windows.

Between each floor of the tower of Chengtian Temple, three layers of angular bricks are protruded from the top and bottom of the eaves. Iron bells are hung on the pomegranate-shaped iron handles at the corners of each layer. When the breeze blows, they jingle. Around Chengtian Tower, there are six old pagoda trees over 400 years old, which complement the exquisite carvings on the screen wall, full of primitive simplicity. There used to be Ningxia Museum in the temple, but now it has been moved. If you have more time, take a walk in the temple and listen to the iron bell on the ancient pagoda, and you will feel nostalgic for the past.
