The Chongqing Natural History Museum is a municipal cultural institution under the supervision of the Chongqing Municipal Cultural Commission, which performs the duties of collection, display, scientific research and popularization of natural specimens on behalf of the country. Our library has been named "National Science Popularization Education Base", "Chongqing Patriotism Education Base", "Chinese Paleontological Society Science Popularization Education Base", and "Land Resources Science Popularization Base". In May 2006, the "Old Site of the Western Academy of Sciences of China" (Beibei Exhibition Hall of Chongqing Natural History Museum) was approved and announced as a national key cultural relic protection unit.
The new Chongqing Natural History Museum is located at the foot of Jinyun Mountain in Beibei, Chongqing, covering an area of 216 acres, with a construction area of 308.42 million square meters and an exhibition area of 16,252 square meters. The architectural design concept of the new museum comes from the natural phenomenon "root encases rocks". The root of Chongqing's city tree "Juice tree" twists and takes root in the rocks of Bayu land, reflecting the exuberant vitality of nature. It is a kind of natural beauty. The culture, extensibility and inclusiveness contained in the "root wrapped stone" can have a good interaction with the building, representing the concept of green ecology and environmental protection.
The basic display of the new museum consists of six major exhibitions: "Animal Planet", "Dinosaur World", "Shanshui City", "Earth Mysteries", "Life Torrent", and "Ecological Homeland", mainly displaying the evolution of the earth, life evolution, and biodiversity As well as the magnificent mountains and rivers of Chongqing, it focuses on the relationship between natural resources, the environment and human activities, and advocates the concept of harmonious coexistence between man and nature and sustainable development.
In addition, our museum will plan the outdoor space reasonably in the future, with the theme of "experience nature, learn nature, discover nature", set up corresponding outdoor exhibition items, and form the project characteristics of "combining museum and garden, integrating into nature".
