Chuxiong Prefecture Museum was completed and opened in July 1995. It covers an area of 60 acres, with a usable area of 11,200 square meters, of which the exhibition hall area is 7,000 square meters. It is a local complex integrating cultural relics collection, exhibition education, academic research, and cultural tourism. The Chuxiong Prefecture Museum is co-operated with the Chuxiong Prefecture Cultural Relics Management Institute and the Chuxiong Prefecture Paleontological Fossil Research Center. The entire building is laid out along the hills, with eight main exhibition halls symmetrical about the central axis and interconnected by long corridors. The large roof has the charm of an ancient architectural palace, and is organically combined with the traditional residential buildings of the Yi nationality, such as the earth palm house and the wooden house, which not only reflects the grand momentum of modern architecture, but also highlights the rich architectural features of the Yi nationality.
