Kangning Temple was built in 1659 in imitation of Drepung Monastery in Lhasa. It is said that 57 tall ancient cypresses around the temple were planted when the temple was established. Some photos of the Panchen Lama and the abbots of past dynasties are enshrined in the main hall. However, the real treasure of the town temple is a statue of Sakyamuni Buddha carved from sandalwood, which is revered as "Juewo Songzama, that is, "Sakyamuni Buddha who can speak".
