Dafengding Nature Reserve is located in Shuwo, Longwo Township and Mabian County in the northeast of Meigu County, Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province. It is 260 kilometers away from Xichang City and 79 kilometers away from Meigu County. The total area of the reserve is 50,655 hectares. Among them, the core area is 31,097.5 hectares, the buffer zone is 17,185 hectares, and the experimental area is 2,372.5 hectares. It is a nature reserve of forest ecosystem type, and its main protection objects are rare wild animals and plants such as giant pandas and their habitats. In the reserve, there are more than 30 kinds of rare animals such as giant panda, red panda, leopard, macaque, rainbow-bellied pheasant, and white crane, and 10 kinds of rare plants, such as dove tree, ginkgo, and Lianxiang tree. Gastrodia elata, fritillaria, and achyranthes bidentata are also abundant and other precious medicinal materials.
