Danjiangkou Dam Scenic Spot is located in the urban area of Danjiangkou City, Hubei Province, 800 meters downstream of the confluence of the Han River and its tributary, the Danjiang River. It is composed of five major landscapes including the exhibition area, the water source ecological experience area, and the tourist resort service area.
The Danjiangkou Water Conservancy Project is located in the middle and upper reaches of the Han River. It is a key control project for the governance and development of the Han River, a control project for the middle line of the South-to-North Water Transfer Project, and a large-scale water conservancy project in the Han River Basin. It consists of a concrete dam, a power plant, a ship lift hoisting system and two aqueducts 30 kilometers upstream. The Middle Route Project of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project was implemented in 2005. The elevation of the Danjiangkou Dam crest was increased from 162 meters to 176.6 meters, and the water was officially opened on December 12, 2014. The project will transfer an average of 9.5 billion cubic meters of water in the near future, and the average long-term water transfer scale will reach 13 billion cubic meters.
The Danjiangkou Reservoir is located in the middle of the mountains. The water area spans the two provinces of Hubei and Henan. The water quality is stable all year round and above the national surface water environmental quality standard II. The water quality is excellent. Known as ""Asia Tianchi"", it is the second largest artificial freshwater lake in Asia after the Three Gorges Reservoir.
The reservoir is full of blue waves, beautiful and picturesque, and the strange mountains and rocks are unique. The water surface is more than 20 kilometers wide, with vast mist, sky and water, and no limit to the eyes. It is called "Little Pacific Ocean". When the Danjiangkou Dam was opened to release water, the wind above the dam was calm and the waves below the dam were tumbling, roaring, surging and magnificent.
