The Daotang River originates from the Chahan Grassland at the western foot of Riyue Mountain and ends at Qinghai Lake in the west. Tibetan compatriots say that it was formed by the tears of Princess Wencheng. When Princess Wencheng married Tubo and passed by here, she missed her hometown and threw away the Sun Moon Mirror to form Riyue Mountain. Her sad tears merged into this westward river. Daotang River is a smaller branch of Qinghai Lake water system. The river is meandering, and the water is so clear that it looks as charming as a bright ribbon falling on the grassland.
More than 200 million years ago, the Qinghai Plateau was a sea. Later, due to strong crustal movement, the plateau gradually uplifted. But at the beginning, the water of Qinghai Lake still flowed eastward from Riyue Mountain, but as Riyue Mountain got higher and higher, Qinghai Lake became a completely closed lake, and the river that originally flowed eastward had to turn around and go to the east. Daotang River Scenic Area is located next to Daotanghe Town, and it is a small area circled by people beside Daotang River. After entering, you can wear Tibetan clothes and take photos with yaks.
