The Datong Volcanic Group is one of the Quaternary Volcanic Groups in my country. It stopped erupting about 60,000 years ago. At present, there are more than 30 known ones, which are mainly distributed in the east of the Datong Basin. They are divided into east, west, and There are four areas in the south and north. Among them, the volcano in the west area, located in the northeast of Datong County today, is the most dense and spectacular part of the volcanic cone landscape. Most of their altitudes are between 1100 meters and 1400 meters above sea level, probably because of the flat and wide valley landforms, these volcanic cones rise up like underground ghosts, and most of them show a kind of mighty and mysterious.

Among the volcanoes in the western area, the crater with the largest diameter is Langwo Mountain, which reaches about 500 meters and is almost a perfect circle. The crater is as deep as 30 to 50 meters on average. This is also the deepest crater in the Datong Volcanic Group. Haotian Mountain is a relatively complete natural dimensional body of the crater in the western part of Datong. From a bird's-eye view, you can find a little trace left by water erosion on the mountain for less than hundreds of thousands of years. It is located in the northeast suburb of Datong County, and has become a relatively remarkable natural landmark of this small county.

Jinshan Volcanic Cone is more like a bright "comet" burning in the summer night sky. And it's white and shiny. Looking down at Gelao Mountain from a high altitude, it is shaped like a golden "peach heart". Because it is surrounded by radial water-eroded groove textures, the "golden light" emitted from the "peach heart" is even more beautiful. charming. The Dongpingshan volcanic cone is far away from the concentrated area of volcanoes in the west area. It is located about two kilometers away from the due east of Datong County. Because the lava flowed towards the southeast during the eruption, a volcanic cone was left in the southeast of the volcanic cone. There is an obvious gap, which makes the entire volcanic cone look like a lifelike giant horseshoe.

must see tips

The Datong Volcanic Group is widely distributed, mainly in the outer suburbs of the eastern part of the Datong Basin and the middle valley of the Sanggan River. There are some villages around, so you need to return to the county seat for board and lodging.
