Dianchi Lake, also known as Kunming Lake, is the sixth largest freshwater lake in China. The lake is vast and magnificent, and most tourists who visit Kunming will come here to take a look. You can walk by the lake, take a boat tour, and feed the birds in winter; you can also climb the dragon gate to overlook Dianchi Lake, which is refreshing.

Dianchi Lake is located at the foot of Xishan Mountain, about 5 kilometers away from the urban area. The north end is adjacent to Daguan Park, and Yunnan Ethnic Village and Xishan Park are across the water. In the past few years, due to careless protection, the blue algae in the water flooded, resulting in a sharp deterioration of the water quality. In recent years, vigorous efforts have been made to improve the water quality, and red-billed gulls, which have not been seen for many years, have also begun to appear by the lake.

To visit Dianchi Lake, you can walk along the viewing road on the east bank of Dianchi Lake. This road is very beautiful. In winter, citizens often come here to feed red-billed gulls, which is very enjoyable. On the other side of the road is Xishan Forest Park, and next to it is Dianchi Haigeng Park. The cableway to Xishan Forest Park is in Haigeng Park. Take the cableway directly to the Longmen of Xishan Mountain. Standing on the Longmen, you can have a panoramic view of Dianchi Lake for five hundred miles, and the scenery is infinite.

After walking the viewing road, you can also drop by the Yunnan Ethnic Village on the north side of Haigeng Park to experience the multi-ethnic customs of Yunnan Province. Or in Daguan Park at the northern end of Dianchi Lake, take a cruise ship to visit the scenery of Dianchi Lake. There are hand rowing boats, motor boats and speedboats for cruises, and you can choose by yourself.
