Takow British Consulate is located on Xiziwan where the sea and sky are the same color. The word Takow comes from the Chinese pronunciation of "Takow" (Pingpu language, meaning bamboo forest), which is rich in bamboo in Kaohsiung. Later, because the Japanese thought the place name "打狗" was indecent, they changed it to "Kaohsiung".

The whole Dagou British Consulate is divided into two parts, the official residence on the mountain and the consulate under the mountain. The mansion on the mountain is a post-Renaissance Baroque building. The red brick exterior, bamboo downpipes, stone carvings and round arches all reflect the differences of the British Consulate in Dagou.
